Literary talent is naturally given to quite a few. But, even having created a literary work, the author often does not know how to convey it to people. Where to go, how to format the text correctly? What conditions for publishing a work can a novice author expect?

Instructions

Step 1

Immediately, we note that the chance to publish a collection of stories or poems is very, very small. Nowadays, everything is determined by the market, no publisher will undertake the publication of works on which he cannot make money. Therefore, it is most realistic to try to publish a novel. The genre can be almost anything, from science fiction to the so-called women's novels.

Step 2

When writing a novel, you should accurately calculate the volume of the text, it should be 12-15 author's sheets. Novels with a slightly smaller or slightly larger volume can also be published, but it is better to stick to the optimal size right away, which is convenient for publishers. One author's sheet is forty thousand characters with spaces, it is defined in a text editor Word: Service - Statistics.

Step 3

All texts must be correctly formatted, namely, written in.doc format on A4 paper, Times New Roman font, size 12 points, no hyphenation, left aligned. All additional requirements can be found by looking for the relevant information in search engines.

Step 4

Let's assume that the novel is written and meets all the requirements for its design. The main task now is to find a publisher. There are a lot of different publishing houses, but it is worth focusing on the largest ones, such as: "Eksmo", "AST", "Alfa Kniga", "Olma-Press", etc. Alternatively, go to any major bookstore, find literature of the genre you are interested in (that is, the one in which your novel was written) and see which publishers' books are on the shelves. Publishers' email addresses can be found on their websites.

Step 5

Manuscripts are accepted only in electronic form. It is not recommended to send the text to several publishers at once, this behavior of the author is unethical. It would be more correct to be patient: they sent the manuscript to one publisher, and waited for the result. If you refused, send your creation to the next, etc. The term for consideration of the manuscript can be up to six months (although usually it is 2-4 months), so please be patient and do not expect a quick result.

Step 6

Be sure to send a synopsis with the manuscript - a short, one or two page summary of the plot. In the application itself (not in the synopsis, but in the text of the letter), briefly tell about yourself. If you have already had any publications, even in newspapers and magazines, indicate this. Your manuscript will be handed over to the reviewer - having read it (or rather, having viewed it), he will give an opinion about it, on the basis of which a decision will be made about the fate of your creation.

Step 7

Remember the main thing: the refusal to publish your novel does not mean at all that it is bad. You may be rejected over and over again - don't back down! The chances that your manuscript will be taken immediately is minimal. Many well-known authors have had to fight their way through for years - just remember this and do not rush to give up.

Step 8

If your manuscript was taken, you will be informed about it by e-mail or your contact phone number. Do not count on a large fee, with a circulation of ten thousand copies, it can be about fifty thousand rubles. But if your novels are successful, circulation will increase and, as a result, your royalties will also increase.
