Biography
Veronica Roth celebrates her birthday on August 19th. She was born in 1988 in the USA in Chicago. In the family of a Polish artist and an ethnic German, Veronica became the third child. She has a brother and sister, Karl and Ingrid. The writer’s mother’s name is Barbara Reeds, and her father’s name is Edgar Gustav Roth. Veronica grew up in a single-parent family, her parents divorced when she was five years old. Veronica, Karl and Ingrid have a stepfather, Frank Ross. He worked in the field of finance.
Roth began her philological education, choosing Northwestern University. She took additional writing courses and dropped out to take up a book. Veronica was right: her works became world famous. In 2012, Roth was nominated for the Teen Choice Awards.
Creation
The first novel of the writer was released in 2011. It was "Divergent", which in the future gave the name to a whole series of works and films. Roth has created a fantasy world where people are divided into castes. It does not do without outcasts. By the way, the action takes place in the hometown of Veronica - Chicago.
People who belong to one of the castes must fight a certain vice, for example, with hypocrisy, ignorance, aggression, cowardice and selfishness. Each faction wears clothing of a specific color and has its own symbols. Some castes are vying. The main character shows a tendency towards 3 castes.
The second book, Insurgent, was published in 2012. The novel is on Publishers Weekly's 2014 Bestseller List. The third novel did not keep fans of the Roth universe waiting long and was released in 2013. It is called "Elligent". In addition, Veronica wrote the book “Four. History of a divergent”, which consists of several stories. Among them: "Free Four", "Transition", "Initiated", "Son" and "Traitor".
Screen adaptations
3 films were shot based on Veronica's books. Divergent, Divergent Chapter 2: Insurgent and Divergent Chapter 3: Behind the Wall were released in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The main character was played by Shailene Daanne Woodley, the star of the television series The Secret Life of an American Teenager and the tragicomedy Descendants.
Also in the trilogy "Divergent" starred Englishman Theo James, model Ashley Judd, Australian Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, singer Zoe Kravitz, as well as famous actresses Kate Winslet and Naomi Watts. The films were directed by Neil Berger and Robert Schwentke.
