Having received his diploma, the young economist returned to his native land and took up economic activity. Akimov was appointed manager of the department of the "Suntarsky" state farm. It was in this collective that the future senator received his first experience of communicating with workers. After a while, he was appointed to the post of chief economist. Three years later, Alexander Konstantinovich took the post of director of a neighboring state farm, which for many years was considered lagging behind. Once again, a rational and consistent approach to managing production processes brought about the desired result.

This became the rule for Akimov. As Minister of Labor and Social Protection, he traveled all over, even the most remote uluses. In the fall of 2013, the government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) sent Akimov as its representative to the Federation Council.
