Eminem (real name - Marshall Bruce Mathers III) is known to the general public as a rapper, winner of 13 Grammy awards, composer and music producer. However, in addition to his pop activity, Eminem starred in several films and to this day continues his career as a film actor.
In 2000, Eminem played himself in the film Da Hip Hop Witch. The film is a parody of the Blair Witch horror movie. While everyone fears the terrible Blair witch, a new threat emerges - the Hip-Hop Witch. The heroine of the film is a journalist who, with the help of her friends, decided to find out the whole truth about the witch.
In 2001, Eminem starred in a cameo role in the hip-hop comedy Sink, but Curtis Hanson's film The 8th Mile (2002) is considered his official acting debut.
8th mile
Mile 8 tells the story of a young man named Jimmy "Rabbit" Smith, Jr. He works in a factory in Detroit and dreams of becoming a rapper. However, rap is traditionally considered the music of African Americans and it is very difficult for a white person to succeed in it. The 8th Mile Highway is a kind of separator between the world of blacks and whites. The film is considered to be autobiographical, especially since Eminem's childhood and adolescence were also held in Detroit. However, it shows rather a generalized image of any aspiring white rapper. Mile 8 brought Eminem both commercial and professional success. In 2003, he was awarded an Oscar for the best song from the film - Lose Yourself, which, along with the title song of the film, is still considered the standard of rap culture to this day. True, the song was not performed at the ceremony due to the absence of the author himself. In the same year, he received the MTV Movie Awards for Best Actor and Best Male Breakthrough of the Year.
As a guest star, Eminem, along with Christina Aguilera, took part in the finale of the seventh season of the series "Handsome". In 2009, Eminem appeared in the role of himself in the movie "Funny People". In 2013, he starred as hitman Paladin in the crime drama Find Adventure with Your Gun, and also created the soundtrack for this film. Unfortunately, Eminem has not yet succeeded in repeating the success of the 8th Mile.
Unplayed roles
Eminem claimed the lead role in Teleport, but director Doug Lyman chose Hayden Christensen over him. In 2013, Neil Blomkamp offered Eminem the lead role in the blockbuster Elysium: Heaven on Earth. But the actor refused, and the role went to Matt Damon.
From time to time, information appears in the media about the preparation of new Hollywood projects with the participation of Eminem, so, apparently, his acting career will be successfully continued, and, perhaps, he will still play his best role.
