Thanks to the development of information technologies, today anyone can find information about a relative who has disappeared or died during the Great Patriotic War. This can be done through one of the many specially created sites.
Instructions
Step 1
Before starting the search, collect as much useful information as possible about the missing relative (name, surname, patronymic, date of conscription, military rank, old photos, etc.). As practice shows, one name and surname in order to find a veteran of the Great Patriotic War is not enough. Details of the person will not only make it easier to find, but will increase the likelihood of achieving a positive result.
Step 2
The easiest way to find a participant in the 1941-1945 hostilities is to use electronic databases. There are quite a few similar resources on the Internet, and they are all in the public domain. The largest data banks include the sites www.podvignaroda.ru, www.obd-memorial.ru, www.pamyat-naroda.ru and www.moypolk.ru. Information for electronic databases is obtained by volunteers who are engaged in archaeological excavations in places of hostilities, as well as by those who, by the nature of their activities, are somehow related to WWII veterans (social workers, law enforcement officers and medical personnel). Information about the participants in the Second World War is constantly updated and supplemented, so it makes sense to search for the missing soldier through electronic databases several times a month. To start searching for a person, you must enter his full name and date of birth in the search bar. All other information that we managed to find out before starting the search is noted in the extended questionnaire.
Step 3
If a search in the largest databases did not give results, then you can search for a person who disappeared during the Great Patriotic War in the books of memory. They contain information about people killed in wartime, whose remains were found during excavations and identified. These thematic resources include the following sites: rf-poisk.ru, patriotvort.rf and soldat.ru.
Step 4
Also, in search of a participant in the Second World War, electronic libraries containing old newspapers of the war period and memoirs (oldgazette.ru, www.rkka.ru) or archives containing documents about military operations (www.archives.ru, www.rusarchives.ru, archive.mil.ru, rgvarchive.ru, rgaspi.org and rgavmf.ru).
