More than four years have passed since the so-called five-day war with Georgia, which took place in August 2008, but assessments of the actions of Russia and its leadership in this conflict continue. The documentary “The Lost Day” was timed to coincide with the next anniversary of hostilities in South Ossetia, which, having appeared on the Internet, caused a mixed reaction in society and, apparently, offended the ex-President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

At one of the meetings of the United Russia party in August 2012, Dmitry Medvedev criticized those who form a distorted opinion on social and political events on the Internet. Observers believe that the online documentary "The Lost Day" was the formal reason for criticism. In the sensational film, former and current military leaders of the Russian army indirectly accuse D. A. Medvedev is that, as the head of state, he displayed unreasonable slowness and indecision in the first hours of the Russian-Georgian conflict.

In the speech of the former president, it was about a narrow group of people, but it, most likely, had specific addressees. The film, which stirred up the Internet community, contains a selection of short interviews with Russian generals and residents of South Ossetia, who were direct witnesses and participants in the bloody events of early August 2008.

The military reproaches Medvedev for untimely decision to start military operations against the Georgian aggressors. The leadership's indecision led to serious human casualties, which could have been completely avoided by taking preventive measures back on August 7, when the intentions of the Georgian side became clear. This is the essence of the claims that have provoked the resentment of the former leader of Russia.

Dmitry Medvedev, despite the time that has passed since the conflict, apparently is still acutely worried about those events. Then the fate of not only specific citizens of Russia and South Ossetia, but also the situation in the entire Caucasian region depended on his decisions. In one of his interviews with journalists, the ex-president emotionally stressed that the decision to send troops into the territory of a foreign state demanded a manifestation of political will, which he demonstrated with his order of retaliatory actions.

Such a decision, according to Medvedev, was made by him in a timely manner, two and a half hours after receiving information about the beginning of the Georgian aggression. The politician denied the fact that he had to consult Vladimir Putin on this issue. Thus, Dmitry Medvedev demonstrated that he proved himself in that difficult situation as a sane and independent head of state.
