Today, most historians claim that Roman culture is based on borrowing from the Greek. Of course, it is somewhat different from it, but at the same time it is really secondary.

Was there a Roman culture ?

Historians who study Roman culture have diverse points of view regarding its development and the volume of borrowings. Some believe, for example, that this culture did not exist at all, since all the knowledge about Roman culture that has come down to our time was the result of the interaction and unification of fairly developed Etruscan and Greek cultures with tribal traditions. After all, it was these tribes that previously inhabited the territory of Rome.

As for the religion of the Roman Empire, it was tolerated. After all, the Greek traditions and cults were unequivocally similar to the Roman ones, and the functions that the gods performed were practically the same, united into pantheons by analogy with the deities of Rome. But there was still a certain difference. So the gods of the Greeks were a human form, but the deities of Rome were ephemeral creatures. In this case, it is worth saying that in some way the religion of the Romans had certain roots of Greek heritage. In this case, it is appropriate to say that the Roman religion was filled with the emotionality of Greece, but at the same time had the severity inherent in Rome.

Philosophy and architecture

The Greeks devoted a considerable amount of time to studying the system of the world order, while the Romans did not attach any importance to this. The Romans were more interested in studying the life of society, the place that a person occupies in this world, how it was possible to achieve perfection, the problem of freedom was also curious. Therefore, it is in ancient Rome that the ethics created by Seneca appears, which says that any person improves when he thinks about God, the frailty of earthly life and the cycle of life.

Roman culture was more focused on urban society, as a result of which Roman citizens were engaged in the construction of not only residential buildings or tombs, but also erected bridges, fortress walls and roads.

As for architecture, here the Romans were inherent in strict silhouettes, and not the beauty or decor of buildings. In this, Roman culture is much different from Greek. And, of course, at the end it is worth noting that the contradiction of the culture of ancient Rome is based on the opposite meaning of the Roman human ideal and its activities.
