The future science fiction writer was born in the fall of 1979. This significant event took place in the small town of Lipetsk.
Already in childhood, Vitaly showed a tendency to fantasize and invent short stories. A rich imagination was characteristic of the boy.
I wasn’t a bully at school, I studied mainly with grades, I took part in various competitions. After graduation, Vitaly decided to enter a university with a technical focus in his hometown.
There were no problems with admission, thanks to excellent grades. Zykov successfully became a first-year student. During his student days, he did not study as hard as in school, but he was not a hard-core truant either. After receiving his diploma, Zykov continued his studies in graduate school.
Zykov's creativity
Interest in writing arose after an amusing controversy. The future science fiction writer argued with a friend that he could write a novel and kept his word. It was not easy for him to get the first manuscript, but by trial and error the book was still written by 2003.
As an experienced reader, Zykov loved to argue with the authors, to offer his vision of the characters and plot twists. Later criticism became boring, there was a desire to write something of my own. The future writer was guided by the classics of science fiction like Andre Norton, Harry Garrison and Alexander Bushkov. Their fantasy universes and storytelling principles provide a great base for a budding writer.
Without hesitation, Zykov sent the novel to the publishing house and received a positive response. Moreover, his debut book brought the young writer his first Sword without a Name award. It was an undeniable success.
Encouraged by such a high assessment of his literary work, Zykov immediately set about writing the second book. He decides to devote himself entirely to writing.
His decision can be called fateful. The first two books resulted in a whole cycle, which was called "The Way Home". It can be attributed to the subgenre of "Into Other Worlds".
The main characters of this cycle are ordinary guys and girls who find themselves in an ancient and cruel world called Thorn. Each of them has its own path. Someone studies magic, someone arranges a personal life, and one of them becomes a slave who is later destined to rise.
There are 8 books in total. Each of them is distinguished by an interesting dynamic development of events and a well-thought-out plot. Readers also note the diversity of the world and an interesting system of magic and magic duels. Zykov has many interesting living characters, sharp turns of the plot, as well as the consistency and completeness of plot ideas.
Among all the characters, fans have always liked Kirsan. This hero solves intricate problems correctly, surprises with his ingenuity and wisdom. Readers love how he develops his state and improves its legal structure. At the same time, he manages to take care of each of his subjects, sees in each of them not only the gears of the state machine, but also personalities. The most thoughtful character, far from fantasy templates. The rest of the characters are also interesting in their own way, but do not have such a bright charisma.
The second cycle is called "The War of Survival". It is also dedicated to "people who have fallen into other worlds", but with elements of combat fantasy. This time, the writer ventured into a different reality to move an entire Russian city with its inhabitants. Ordinary Russians will have to face demonic creatures, ancient magic and the intrigues of the gods of a world alien to them. They will survive as best they can.
In 2014, Zykov wrote a separate book called "The Primelord or Master of the Lonely Tower."It is dedicated to the Prime World gaming universe. In parallel, Vitaly Zykov writes short stories and novellas based on previous literary universes.
