Valentin Pavlovich Petrov was one of the best doctors in the Soviet and post-Soviet space. He was a member of the honorary society of surgeons in Moscow and the Moscow region. It is impossible to count the number of people whom he returned to duty, so great was his contribution to the work of domestic medicine.
Biography
Valentin Pavlovich was born in a small village called Sasovo. He lived in a small wooden house, which was located somewhere between Turgenev Street and the Embankment in our time.
His family always followed the rules and worked conscientiously, the atmosphere of love for the homeland never left a modest house on the outskirts of the village. Father Valentine went through the Great Patriotic War with dignity and worked for the rest of his life in the post office, for which he was awarded the Order of Lenin. Mother, Anna Yakovlevna, was in charge of the home, did the housework, raised the children and was a nurse during the war years.
At the end of the 9th grade, Valentine faced the hardships of war. A month later, teenagers, including Petrov, were digging trenches in the Smolensk region. The bombing was carried out during the day - they dug at night, bombed in the morning - they did not go back …
Still young Valentin really wanted to get to the front, but the military registration and enlistment office ordered differently. The Naval Medical Academy became the teenager's new home. In addition to studies and military training, the educational institution was engaged in the treatment of the sick and wounded. Here Petrov received the necessary medical training, which later came in handy for his further medical career.
After graduating from the academy in 1947, Valentin Pavlovich served in hospitals and hospitals of the Northern Fleet. In mid-1953, he became chief of the infirmary on Kildin Island in the Barents Sea. It is thanks to this position that Petrov becomes an independent surgeon, able to make spontaneous medical decisions. The main focus of his activity has always been the diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases of the abdominal organs.
In 1976, Petrov was transferred to the post of chief surgeon of the Vishnevsky Central Hospital, and he also took the place of deputy chief surgeon of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The Major General of the Medical Service directed the hospital's surgical care until 1992. Thanks to the contribution of Valentin Petrovich to the development of the hospital, the medical institution has reached a new level of development, modern methods and equipment have appeared, and surgical care for gunshot wounds has improved. He did not spread about his personal life until the end of his days. It is only known that he has children. He died on March 17, 2018.
Awards and achievements
Thanks to his active scientific and industrial activity, in 1999 Valentin Petrovich was awarded the title "Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation". For high achievements before his homeland, he received the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, two orders of the red star and more than 23 medals.
Scientific activity
For all his scientific and practical activity, Valentin Petrovich has about 300 scientific works to his account, 6 of them are monographs. He supervised the defense of 6 doctoral and 10 master's theses. Almost from the very beginning of his practical activity, he studied diseases of the rectum, in particular cancer.
