Every sane person understands that war is a terrible calamity, and that any conflicts and disagreements are best resolved peacefully. Especially when you consider that in the last century there were two world wars that claimed tens of millions of lives. But, unfortunately, even today armed conflicts are taking place on Earth, often reaching an extreme degree of fierceness.
Syrian civil war
Media reports from this Middle Eastern country are reminiscent of real battlefield reports. The protest of a part of the population against President Assad and his inner circle, which began in March 2011, was relatively peaceful at first, and quickly escalated. And after religious fanatics and extremists began to take an active part in it, a real civil war began in Syria. Its members behave extremely violently. There are frequent cases of brutal reprisals against prisoners, as well as civilians, regardless of age and gender. In fairness, it should be noted that part of the blame for the aggravation of the situation lies with the Assad government, which was late in carrying out the necessary reforms.
The situation has become even more aggravated due to the fact that Syria is the object of the geopolitical struggle of many powerful players, both regional and global. For example, Russia supports Assad, although it speaks openly about his mistakes. The United States and Saudi Arabia, on the contrary, support the opponents of the current government. According to far from complete information, about 170 thousand people became victims of this bitter conflict. More than a million Syrians were forced to flee their country. Several rounds of negotiations between representatives of the warring parties in Geneva ended in vain.
Violent conflict in Nigeria
Nigeria is the largest country in terms of population in Africa. It is home to over 170 million people (more than in Russia). For a long time this country was a colony of Great Britain and gained independence only in 1960. Almost immediately after this, there was a long series of military coups, often leading to clashes between different groups of the population. The situation sometimes took on the character of religious discord (in the country, about 50% of citizens profess Islam, about 40% - Christianity, and about 10% - adherents of pagan cults).
Recently, the radical group "Boko Haram", which in translation from one of the dialects means "Western education is a sin", began to operate in Nigeria. Its members, consisting of fanatical Muslims, attack Christian churches, schools and missions with extreme brutality. They do not spare even schoolchildren. Government forces are also fighting these extremists with the most brutal measures.
