The Christian Church refers to the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ as holy apostles, who labored most of all in the preaching of the gospel evangelism. Initially, Christ chose 12 apostles for himself, including Thomas.
The Holy Apostle Thomas is one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. The name of the apostle from the Hebrew language means "twin". Biblical scholars believe that the brother of Thomas was another apostle from among the twelve disciples of Christ - Judas, called Thaddeus.
The Holy Apostle Thomas was the son of a fisherman in the Galilean city of Paneada. Hearing the teachings of Jesus Christ, as well as witnessing the miracles of the latter, Thomas left his fishing business and followed Christ. After the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the appearance of the latter to his disciples, Thomas did not believe the stories about what had happened. Only after the second appearance of the Savior to his disciples and Thomas did the latter testify to his faith in Christ as God.
The Apostle Thomas preached in Palestine, Mesopotamia, Parthia, Ethiopia and India. There is a church tradition that the wise men who worshiped the born Savior were baptized by him.
From the life of the Apostle Thomas it is known that he was not present at the funeral of the Mother of God. Only on the third day after the death of the Virgin Mary was Thomas miraculously transferred to Palestine, where the apostle wanted to worship the body of the Virgin Mary. However, the body of the Mother of God was not in the tomb. This meant that Thomas became a witness that the Lord took the Most Holy Theotokos with her body to heaven. After the Assumption of the Virgin, Thomas again went to India. Here, with his teachings and miracles, he converted a multitude of people to Christ, baptized King Gundafor with his brother.
When the holy Apostle Thomas converted Sindicia and Migdonia to faith in Christ, the wives who served at the court of the king of Muzdias, and the wife of the king himself, Tertian, the women did not want to live with their pagan husbands. The king became angry with Thomas and demanded him to come to him, insisting that the apostle convert wives to their husbands. However, the apostle did not follow the king's command. The tsar gave orders to torture the apostle, but the torture did not harm Saint Thomas. After this, the tsar gave orders to kill Saint Thomas, stabbing the latter with spears. After the death of Saint Thomas, the son of the king was miraculously healed with the help of earth from the grave of the apostle. After that, King Muzdiy was baptized.
Particles of the relics of the holy Apostle Thomas are found in Hungary, Athos and India.
