Javier Bardem's homeland is the Canary Islands, where he was born in 1969. Many members of his family were associated with cinema. His mother, Pilar Bardem, played with Antonio Banderes himself in the film Against the Wind. Her final work was the movie "King of the Gypsies" in 2015; in total, the actress took part in more than a hundred films and TV series. The maternal grandfather, Raphael, was a rather successful director, the grandmother, Matilda Sampedro, was an actress who devoted twenty-five years to cinema.
