The Orthodox Church teaches that Christ died for the sins of all mankind. In the death of the Lord, the reconciliation of man and God took place, believers were given the opportunity to go to heaven after death.
Before talking about the reasons for the crucifixion of Christ, it is necessary to understand that this event was predetermined from the very moment of the creation of man by God. Thus, the Lord knew that there would be a fall and the expulsion of man from paradise. God knew that people would need salvation and grace-filled sanctification. For this, the Eternal Council of the Holy Trinity decided that Christ would come to earth in order to die for man. Therefore, it turns out that the main reason for the crucifixion of Christ was the love of God for people. It was through the death of the second Person of the Most Holy Trinity that humanity was able to reconcile with God and go to heaven after death.
If we talk about the earthly reasons for the crucifixion of Christ, then it is worth paying attention to the fact that the Jewish people hated the Lord. People themselves asked to crucify Jesus. The Jews named the blasphemy of Christ as the main reasons for such a cruel execution. Thus, it was assumed that Christ commits the deadly sin of blasphemy when he calls himself the Son of God.
According to Jewish legalists, Christ violated the Old Testament law when he performed miracles of healings on Saturday. The Jews resented Christ for calling God his Father. Also in the gospel it is indicated that the Pharisees (a special caste in the Jewish people that strictly observed the Old Testament law) resented Christ for making himself equal to God.
The Pharisees of the Israelite people did not understand that Christ is God who came to man for the sake of salvation. Christ was accused of eating and drinking with sinners, while calling himself the Son of God.
The scribes and Pharisees attached particular importance to the fact that the Lord allegedly did not recognize the authority of the king-Caesar. On the board nailed to the top of the crucifix, they wrote that Christ is the king of Israel.
It turns out that the earthly reasons for the crucifixion of Christ were the misunderstanding of the Jewish essence of Jesus by some legalists. They hated him and accused him of blasphemy, disobedience to Caesar, and opposition to the earthly royal power.
