What are the voices

With the help of a voice, a person can reproduce a wide variety of sounds. He can express an emotional state: joy, anger, surprise. With the help of the vocal folds, their ability to contract and stretch, a person can change the intensity of the flow of air, as a result, sounds that are different in timbre and height are obtained.

Human voices are masculine, feminine, and childish, and each is different. You can never meet two identical voices, each has its own uniqueness, like a person's fingerprints.

Voice ranges

Voices can be of different heights - high and low; in timbre - soft, rough; loud and quiet.

Voices of different types are distinguished by tessituation - the part of the range in which the voice sounds most pleasant and easy. Each singer performing a work sings in his own tessitura, although for a short time he can sing in all tessitura.

There are female ranges:

- alto - the female voice of this range is very often called the contralto, it is low, but higher than the male;

- mezzo-soprano - middle voice;

- soprano - very agile, high, he manages to reproduce sounds similar to a trill.

For men, the ranges are as follows:

- bass - the lowest, very often a voice of this range can be found in the church choir of Russia;

- baritone - medium in height, most young men have this range;

- tenor - a high male voice called "royal", singers with such a range are highly valued all over the world.

Children's voices are divided into two ranges: alto and soprano (treble), similar to female voices.

Voice registers

In each voice of a person, several registers can be distinguished: chest - low, middle - chest-head, and also high - head. A certain type of voice has transitional notes between registers, which do not always sound pleasant and smooth.

There are lyrical and dramatic subtypes of voices. Lyric types successfully reproduce sounds of high registers. Gentle, thoughtful and sad works are suitable for such voices.

Dramatic voices, sounds of the lower registers are reproduced easier and more melodic. They are performed by parts of works where it is necessary to show a storm of emotions, passion and strength.

You can also meet a person with a lyric and dramatic voice. Such people can easily reproduce the sounds of both low and high registers.

There are observations that a low and more chesty voice is characteristic of overweight people, and high voices are characteristic of slender and lean people.
