Biography
The small homeland of Alexei Sergeevich Kostin is the village of Pushkari, where in 1911 on March 15 he was born. Currently, this settlement is part of the territory of the city of Lebedyan. The Lipetsk region is rich in heroes of the Great Patriotic War, among whom the Hero of the Soviet Union, Lieutenant Colonel Alexei Kostin, occupies a special place.
Education and work
Kostin's career began in Novosibirsk, where Aleksey Sergeevich studied at the Institute of National Economy. After receiving higher education, the former student immediately headed the department of training and distribution of personnel in the regional trade department of Novosibirsk. In 1938, Alexei Kostin was drafted into the Red Army. He served two years after being drafted. Fate decreed that the young Red Army soldier again went to military service - in 1941 the Great Patriotic War began. Kostin underwent special training and in May 1943 got into the heat of the war.
Among the battles in which the artilleryman Alexei Kostin took part is the famous Battle of Kursk, operations to liberate the territories of Belarus and Poland from the Nazis. Under the command of Alexei Kostin, the artillery battery of the 86th brigade of one of the divisions of the third shock army, which fought in the directions of the first Belorussian Front, took part in the bloody battles. The 86th Heavy Howitzer Artillery Brigade crossed the European Dnieper, Vistula and Oder. Lieutenant Colonel Alexei Kostin especially distinguished himself during the operation to capture Berlin.
Contribution to the victory over fascism
According to the military chronicle in 1945, when the Red Army was carrying out offensive operations on the territory of Nazi Germany, the first division of Major B. P. Kirpikov, which included a howitzer battery under the leadership of Kostin, performed a significant action. On the night of April 21st, the renowned officer's battery took a fierce battle in the highway area northeast of the German capital. The battle took place near the town of Bloomberg.
Having destroyed two enemy tanks and a large number of German invaders, Kostin's battery continued active hostilities. The gunners began shelling Berlin, having previously taken a winning position. Captain Kostin took part in the battles for Berlin as the leader of the shelling of the German capital. The observation post, where Kostin commanded the firing of artillery from several batteries, was positioned so that devastating fire from many guns reached the Reichstag.
The courage and bravery of the Soviet officer were noted by the government - on May 31, 1945, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union issued a decree awarding Captain Alexei Kostin the title "Hero of the Soviet Union". The officer was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
Personal life
When the hostilities ended and peacetime came, Aleksey Kostin remained to serve in the army. After the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, he studied at the Higher Artillery Officer School, where the officer improved his qualifications for two academic years. Service in the army was successful, Kostin was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1956 ended his military career. The Kostin family lived in the city of Kalinin. Here the valiant officer was hired for civilian work. Alexey Kostin finished his life in 1982 on November 11th. The Hero of the Soviet Union was buried in Zelenograd.
