In Russian culture, there are many borrowings from the Western tradition. So, some holidays are included in the everyday life of Russian citizens. For example, Valentine's Day or Halloween. However, the essence and meaning of the celebrations are not fully understood by people.
In recent decades, there has been interest in Russia in the Western holiday of Halloween, originated in the UK. Many celebrate it, have fun and triumph, not understanding the main meaning and content of this day. In some cafes, restaurants and bars, special promotions are held on this day. For example, discounts for those who come in the costume of some vampire or witch. Pumpkins, symbolizing the severed head, are laid out in the establishments, and the walls are decorated with images with mystical and frankly demonic characters.
Halloween means "All Saints Day". In the west, it was initially perceived as a time of remembrance of holy people who were endowed with divine grace. But time passes and Halloween turned into a parade of evil spirits. People began to dress up in costumes of demons, sorcerers, witches, werewolves and vampires. This tradition comes to Russia as well. At the same time, no one even thinks about the original name of the holiday.
It is completely unacceptable for an Orthodox Christian to dress up in costumes of evil spirits. A person must realize that there has been a serious substitution of concepts. Now the day of the saints is a time of revelry and triumph of evil spirits. An Orthodox person who is a follower of Christ himself must not stoop to the level of being like demons. Few people think about the expression - "Whom you call, he comes." Festivities on this day are akin to witches' sabbaths, and a Christian is strictly forbidden to take part in this. The Gospel announces that the believer must renounce evil and all its manifestations. And in the celebration of Halloween, there is a "fashion show" of demonic power.
Understanding the meaning of outfits and the very essence of Halloween allows the Christian to prioritize. Either he serves God or the devil. There is no other way in this situation.
