Biography
The writer was born in Leningrad in the family of a biologist in 1963. Celebrates his birthday on November 21. Perumov's father, Daniil Alexandrovich, lived a long life and was engaged in research in the field of biology. Nikolai followed in his father's footsteps and became a biophysicist. For ten years Nikolai Perumov worked at the Research Institute in the field of molecular biology. As part of a group of scientists, Perumov was engaged in the development of methods for treating children affected by radiation during the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and made a great contribution to solving this problem.
Perumov's first writings appeared in the late 1970s. Nikolai was fond of reading science fiction books and was a fan of Tolkien. Perumov read Tolkien's works in the writer's language, independently translated into Russian. For a long time he was a member of the Tolkien fan movement and communicated with like-minded people.
Creative career
In 1993, Perumov made his debut. Two stories based on Tolkien's plots were published by the "Caucasian Library" publishing house. Later Perumov edited and republished the work. The book was published under the title "Ring of Darkness" and immediately became popular. The history of the hobbits was continued in the adventures of the descendants of Meriadoc, about which Nick Perumov spoke about in the pages of his book.
The novel "Ring of Darkness" received a lot of conflicting responses. Ardent opponents even staged an attack on Perumov in 1994. Fans believed that Russian fantasy literature was born from Perumov's publications.
Based on the "Ring of Darkness" Perumov released two more books, where the action continued in Tolkien's Middle-earth. The new books did not receive the same powerful resonance as the first. At this, Perumov finished describing the development of events in Middle-earth and began to invent stories from his own fantastic worlds. The Death of the Gods describes a whole system of realities, interconnected in a special way.
Modern period
In 1998, Nick Perumov, along with his family, wife and three children, emigrated to the United States, where he was in demand because of his bioengineering profession, and continued to work in the fields of molecular biology and biophysics.
In 1999, the writer won the Wanderer prize for a book from the Guardians of Swords series. In 2004, Perumov was named the best science fiction writer of the year in Russia and Europe. In 2007, Perumov's work "The Death of the Gods" was translated into English for the first time. In the same year, Perumov again became the best science fiction writer of the year.
In addition to the fantasy genre, Nick Perumov co-authored works with Lukyanenko in the steampunk genre and with Kamsha in the genre of alternative history, and released his own works in the genre of space fiction. In 2007 and 2008, computer games were created based on the plots of Nick Perumov's works.
