Tom Hooper (full name Thomas George Hooper) is a British director, screenwriter and producer. His painting "The King Speaks!" received four Oscar statuettes, as well as awards: British Academy, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, Goya, European Film Academy, Golden Eagle.
Hooper's career began at the age of thirteen, when he shot his first short film, Runaway Dog, with an amateur 16mm Bolex camera.
When the boy was eighteen, he wrote, produced and directed the fifteen-minute film Painted Faces, which he presented at the London Film Festival. Later, the picture was shown on the Channel 4 television channel.

The future famous director was born in England in the fall of 1972. His mother was a writer, and his father was the director of United News and Media, which owns the ITV franchise.
Tom attended Westminster School. Then he continued his education at the University of Oxford. In his student years, he not only took part in performances himself, but also became one of the directors of theatrical productions, where K. Beckinsale and E. Mortimer played. During these years, Hooper began filming commercials.
Tom's father introduced him to the famous television director and producer M. Robinson, who invited the young man to start his creative career on television and shoot several episodes of the projects: "Biker Grove" and "East Endians".

One of Hooper's first serious works came out in 2009. It was the painting "Damn United". The plot of the film revolved around the history of the Leeds United football club. Former striker Brian Clough, after completing his sports career due to a serious injury, becomes the coach of the almost unknown Derby County team. But soon his players won the championship of England, and Brian gets the opportunity to become the coach of Leeds United. The picture combined not only artistic images, but also documentary footage about the sports achievements of the famous club.
A year later, Hooper directed his most famous film, The King's Speech! The plot told the story of King George VI of England, who ascended the throne after his brother's abdication. Suffering from a nervous stutter and constant doubts about his ability to lead the state, Georg turns to Dr. Lionel Logue for help.
The film, directed by Hooper, brought him not only worldwide fame, but also numerous cinematic awards, including four Academy Awards.
The next Oscar-winning film was Les Miserables, released in 2012. It was based on the famous novel Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.
For her role in Les Miserables, actress Anne Hathaway won an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category. In total, the film received eight Oscar nominations, of which three were victorious.
