Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov is the founder of the Russian military art. Throughout his career, he did not suffer a single defeat on the battlefield, thanks to his merits, Russia acquired such great commanders as Kutuzov, Bagration and Raevsky. Suvorov's contribution to the history of the state and the world has not been forgotten to this day, and every year a huge number of his admirers from different countries of the world visit his grave.
Suvorov was born into a military family, his father was a general-in-chief. He owes his name to Alexander Nevsky. His whole life was closely connected with military affairs, from an early age the boy studied his home library, most of which consisted of books on artillery, fortification and military tactics. Of course, his father, as well as a friend of their family, General Hannibal, had a huge influence on the choice of Alexander's life path.
The life path of Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov
The life of the great commander was far from easy and cloudless. Throughout its entire course, he endured many hardships, was persecuted, was repeatedly wounded, and his family life did not work out. Suvorov got married quite late, already at the age of 43, but soon after the wedding he found his wife with another and broke off any relationship with her, however, according to church canons, he did not formalize the divorce.
Alexander's military career was also difficult and thorny, his own inflexibility and straightforwardness, intolerance of lies and injustice, brought a lot of harm to him. But for his feats of arms, Suvorov was repeatedly awarded - all the highest awards of his native state, including the Orders of St. George of all degrees, the orders of France, Poland, Austria and Bavaria, Sardinia and Prussia. Among his awards was even the Golden Sword with Diamonds, which he received in 1775 for his triumphant victory over the Turks.
How Suvorov died and where is he buried
The great commander died in May 1800. The cause of his death was ulcers that had opened at the site of old wounds received on the battlefields. A month before the death of Suvorov, the wounds began to bleed and became inflamed, progressive gangrene began, but this did not prevent him from doing military affairs and even demanding an appointment with the reigning Paul I. However, Suvorov was denied an audience, and he died in the house of Count Khvostov. on the Klyuchevsky Canal in St. Petersburg.
The death of Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov made a huge impression even on commoners and crowds of his admirers tried to give him their last bow. The body of the commander was put up for farewell in the house of Khvostov. For this, the walls of one of the rooms were covered with black cloth, in its central part they built something like a deathbed, where a coffin with an embalmed body was installed.
Suvorov was buried in the Annunciation tomb on the territory of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. Moreover, Paul I not only did not show due respect for the man who did so much for Russia during the farewell ceremony, but also ordered to bury him not as a generalissimo, which he was, but only as a field marshal.
However, the descendants have great respect for the memory of Suvorov, and even now, a little over two centuries after his death, the flow of admirers to the place of his burial does not dry out.
