The main goal of Greenpeace is to protect the environment. She also conducts environmental education of the population of any country in the world, promotes an ecological lifestyle. Her field of activity includes global climate change, deforestation, animal protection, whaling, the spread of radiation hazards on the planet and much more.
The international and independent environmental organization Greenpeace, or "Green World", was born in the early seventies of the last century. The reason for its occurrence was the nuclear underground tests in Alaska in the United States. Then a group of enthusiasts began a protest movement against these actions of the Americans, as nuclear tests led to earthquakes and tsunamis. In order to unite the protesters, it was decided to create this organization.
Greenpeace is headquartered in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Now there are 30 regional branches in 47 countries. Today, the number of employees does not exceed one and a half thousand people, at the same time, the number of its members is more than three million people. The organization has an average donation income of € 265 million per year.
What GreenPeace is fighting for
The organization has many projects. Members of the organization oppose nuclear testing. And not only in the USA, but also in other countries of the world. The "greens" are also against the extraction of oil and the use of fuel based on it. They suggest using ecological methods of generating energy, for example, with the help of wind, sun, water.
Greenpeace has a project called "Save the Arctic". The Greens want to create a nature reserve around the North Pole, moreover, it will be international. There will be no oil production, no commercial fishing, and no wars in this region. Since 1996, the Greens have campaigned against the use of genetically modified foods.
GreenPeace leaders speak out against war on Earth and advocate for nuclear disarmament. Also, the "greens" are against mass fishing, against commercial hunting for whales. Greenpeace stands for the safety of nuclear power plants, and volunteers of the organization have repeatedly rescued people from areas contaminated with radiation. Greenpeace also opposes ambient air pollution and deforestation. The Greens want all the garbage on the planet to be recycled and used for other needs.
How GreenPeace fights
Members of this organization organize actions and protests, conduct scientific research, which often force mankind to take a different path. Often the “greens” are lobbying for this or that legislative act. Greenpeace is a founding member of the Charter of Responsibility of International Non-Governmental Organizations; this organization has a consultative status at the UN.
Despite the fact that the organization exists on donations, it has its own fairly powerful fleet. All Greenpeace shares are peaceful. It can be concerts, performances, promotions, release of CDs with songs. One of the principles of the organization's activity is not violence, even if the members of the organization are threatened with physical violence, the “greens” do not respond with violence.
