Feminists of this world consider “I Will Survive” to be their anthem, as do most of the women of the planet who parted from their loved ones against their will. In the works of the singer Gloria Gaynor, the composition has become the most famous. The song is called one of the coolest tracks of the disco era.
Such a creation was simply doomed to success from the very beginning. The feelings embedded in the single and conveyed by the performer are very close both to Gaynor herself and to the talented authors of the masterpiece.
The birth of a masterpiece
The song's story began with the firing of two full-time songwriters from Motown Records. Dino Ferakis, one of the victims, did not despair. Having heard the theme “Generation” he had previously created for the film, he made a decision to survive at any cost and become a famous author.
Ferakis began work on his future hit with his unfortunate colleague, Freddie Perrin. Inspiration did not leave them from the beginning of their activity, and therefore the result turned out to be appropriate. It was up to the performer, who was able not only to feel the atmosphere of the creation, but also to convey it to the audience.
The search for a suitable candidate turned out to be long. As a result, the authors were ready to offer the single to the very first famous singer who wished to sing "I Will Survive". It was at this moment that they were contacted by representatives of the label with which Gloria Gaynor collaborated. They offered to produce the song "Substitute". At that time, the successful vocalist was experiencing considerable difficulties. They managed to forget the disco queen, giving preference to new stars.
Triumphant premiere
The vocalist agreed to perform the creation proposed to her, barely hearing the composition. “I will live” is the confession of an abandoned woman who has learned to solve everything without the help of her chosen one who left her.
From the first moment Gaynor perceived the hit as a story about overcoming obstacles in the broadest sense. She was impressed by both the encouraging mood of the single, and the words about an eternal problem that do not lose their relevance.
We recorded a song on the back of the album with the main track "Substitute". However, DJs were more willing to play "I Will Survive" in all clubs. Therefore, soon the single in the new edition changed places with the ex-leader.
In the early spring of 1979, the song was at the top of the charts in the United States. As the best disco record, "I'll Live" won a Grammy, becoming one of a kind. Later, the performer said that the triumph of the hit that overshadowed all her previous songs did not upset her at all.
Unfading glory
The star admitted that she will never get tired of singing the masterpiece that has returned her popularity. She gladly changes rhythms, arrangements, even inserts hip-hop pieces.
In front of the audience, the celebrity always gave all her best during the performance of "I Will Survive", because fans love this single. The composition entered the list of the greatest songs of all time. It was sung by many famous musicians. The most unloved option for her, according to Gaynor, was a cover remake called "Cake".
In 1998, the mega hit became the anthem of the French national football team at the world championship. To this day, the song "I will live" remains one of the most performed, without losing its popularity among listeners.
