Anatoly Verbitsky did not receive roles in the Moscow Art Theater, worthy of his artistic talent. And in the cinema, he played not too many central roles. However, the audience remembered and fell in love with Anatoly Vsevolodovich after the release of the film "Star", where Verbitsky played the role of Travkin. The actor tragically passed away when he was a little over fifty years old.
From the biography of Anatoly Vsevolodovich Verbitsky
The future actor was born in Moscow on February 3, 1926. His father, Vsevolod Alexandrovich, was an actor, served in the Moscow Art Theater. His maternal uncle also played on stage and in films. Anatoly's grandmother was the writer A. Verbitskaya. The boy was brought up in such a creative family.
Verbitsky began his labor activity during the war years, when he was a ninth grade student. The Moscow Art Theater in those years was evacuated to Saratov. Anatoly worked in the carpentry workshops of the theater as a simple worker. Then they began to attract him to participate in crowd scenes in individual productions.
In 1947, Verbitsky graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School. While still a student, he took part in the productions of Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich, Anna Karenina, Kremlin Chimes. Having received his education, he served at the Moscow Art Theater until the end of his life.
Work in the theater
Anatoly Vsevolodovich had excellent external data and a beautiful voice. However, in the theater, he almost did not receive significant roles that would contribute to the professional growth of the actor. Among the early works of Verbitsky in the theater can be called the role of Neil in "Bourgeois", Timur in "Aurora Salvo", Walter Gay in the play "Dombey and Son", Popovsky in the production of "Lomonosov".
Anatoly began to receive roles worthy of his talent only in the 50s. He successfully played Dantes in The Last Days, Panshin in The Noble Nest, Count Orsino in Twelfth Night.
Film career
The long-awaited success did not immediately come to Verbitsky and in the cinema. His debut work was the role of Travkin in the war drama Star (1949). However, he was offered another role only in 1955: Anatoly had to get used to the image of Pechorin in Princess Mary. And he succeeded: the role of the hero from the work of Lermontov brought the actor all-Union fame. It can be considered the main success in life for Verbitsky. After the release of the picture, Anatoly was invited to shoot in Hollywood. However, the authorities did not agree to this.
The last years of the actor's life
Meanwhile, things were not going well for Verbitsky in the theater. After the change of leadership, a worthy place among other members of the renewed troupe was not found for Anatoly Vsevolodovich. He appeared on stage less and less, sometimes came to the theater only a couple of times a month. One of the last significant works of Verbitsky on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater was the role of Neznamov in the production of Guilty Without Guilt (1963).
Verbitsky's wife was actress Luiza Koshukova. They had to go on tour together more than once. On July 4, 1977, the couple were going on another trip. He rarely shared his thoughts with other people, so now it is difficult to establish what caused the tragedy that happened that day.
In the airport hall, Anatoly Vsevolodovich unexpectedly grabbed his bag and ran away. The wife did not suspect anything special: she decided that her husband had simply forgotten something and would catch up with her on the road, arrive on the next flight.
What really happened? It is known that the actor returned to his Moscow apartment, put sheets of paper with poems of his favorite poets in the rooms, and then turned on the tap of the gas stove. They found Verbitsky already dead.
