The main competition program of the Moscow International Film Festival in 2012 includes 17 films. But this is not all that the audience of this large-scale event can see.
17 films will compete for the main prize of the festival - the statuette of "St. George" at the 34th Moscow International Film Festival. Most of them are from Eastern Europe, but there are films from China, Mexico, Great Britain, Iran and other countries among the participants. Russia at the MIFF is represented by four films.
1. Naked Bay
The film is co-produced by Russia and Finland. In sometimes absurd and sometimes touching stories, director Aku Louhimenez shows the life of a modern suburb of Helsinki. The shooting was carried out with two cameras, so sometimes the viewer sees what usually remains behind the scenes for him.
2. Gulf Stream under the iceberg
Another co-production film, this time with Latvia. Director Yevgeny Pashkevich refers to the most ancient motives. The first wife of Adam, Lilith, participates in the related novellas. She is immortal, wears different names and masks, but invariably takes possession of men and then abandons them.
3. Rita's last tale
Another fairy tale by Renata Litvinova. Through the fates of three women, the director shows a man's craving for love, the struggle of hatred with bright feelings. All this takes place in naturalistically depicted pictures of hospitals, apartments and other Russian surroundings.
4. Horde
Historical panel from Andrey Proshkin. XIV century, Metropolitan Alexy of the Moscow principality goes to the Golden Horde to heal the khansha.
The entire main program of the competition is diverse in terms of genre, style of performance of the picture. However, only one puppet film is presented at the festival. This is the Spanish "Apostle" by Fernando Cortiso. A fantasy horror movie full of humor about a criminal who escaped from prison.
In addition to the above, there are 12 more films from different countries in the "main" playlist of the Moscow International Film Festival. However, the festival program is not limited to this. Another 13 directors presented their debut works, as well as experimental films for the Perspectives competition. This is neo-noir in black and white "Dr. Ketel", a film-study of male nature in the world of Zen Buddhism "Bebop", Turkish painting "Where is my tongue?" about an old man who is a native speaker of the ancient language and many others.
Short films (9 works), as well as documentaries (7 works) take part in the competition-festival. Documentary films are dedicated to music ("In Search of Sugarman"), politics ("Tomorrow"), beauty pageants in India ("The World Before Her") and other topics. The short film is represented by various works, some of which shock the viewer, others touch his deep feelings, and still others make one think.
And, of course, the MIFF is not limited to the competition program. Participants of the film event can enjoy pictures of out-of-competition screenings. This is Estonian animation, the Universal Pictures gold collection, gala premieres, Latin American films, German cinema, a whole series of works by director Ernst Lubitsch and much more.
