The famous French writer Henri Barbusse was born in Asnieres, a northwestern suburb of Paris. His father was a writer, an atmosphere of love and mutual understanding reigned in the family. The future writer has a solid education under his belt - he graduated from the literary faculty of the Sorbonne. Before the outbreak of the imperialist war, Barbusse had already gained fame as a journalist, prose writer and poet. From 1903 to 1908, his novels "Begging" and "Hell" were published. In the years of the outbreak of the First World War, the author published a collection of short stories with the short title "We".

In 1923, Henri Barbusse became a member of the French Communist Party.

All subsequent activities of Barbusse determined his participation in the war. It was in the trenches that the writer's socialist views took shape. His novels "Fire" (1916) and "Clarity" (1919) were highly appreciated by Vladimir Ulyanov-Lenin. The writer managed to reflect the impressive growth of the revolutionary consciousness of the people, which took place under the influence of a destructive and bloody war.

The public activities of the French writer acquired a special scope after the victory of October. Henri welcomed the conquests of the Russian proletariat and angrily opposed the anti-Soviet intervention.

Barbusse becomes one of the founders of the association of former front-line soldiers, organizes an association of progressive writers. Peru Barbusse owns policy documents against the war. In 1920, a collection of his articles and speeches was published.

In 1923, Henri Barbusse became a member of the French Communist Party.

Henri Barbusse took part in the anti-fascist movement of the 1930s. On his initiative in 1932, the International Anti-War Congress and the World Committee for the Struggle Against War were created. Barbusse's active civic position aroused respect in the circles of the progressive public and embittered those who sought to ignite the flames of war in Europe.

For many years, Henri Barbusse collected materials and documents to create a biography of Lenin. He also worked hard on a book about Stalin. However, the writer did not have time to realize his bold creative ideas. He died in Moscow in August 1935 from pneumonia. The body of the writer was solemnly taken to France three days later. Henri Barbusse is buried in the Pere Lachaise cemetery.
