The symbol of the city of New York, the symbol of America, the symbol of democracy and freedom, the world-famous statue located on the small island of Liberty, to this day excites the minds of Americans and guests of the country, in a hurry to admire this monumental structure and take a couple of colorful photographs. This is the Statue of Liberty.
Symbolism outside …
Created in the workshops of Paris, she became a real gift of the French people, the personification of democracy and freedom. The opening of the famous monument was timed to coincide with the centenary of the great American revolution. It is believed that the prototype of the world-famous symbol of democracy - the Monument to Freedom - was the painting by Delacroix, and the idea itself is based on the sculptor's idea of erecting a giant lighthouse, which in the hands of the statue was replaced with a torch that welcomes newly arrived ships from all parts of the globe.
Everything in the statue is steeped in stories, each element of the monument is thought out and has a symbolic character.
A graceful woman in light clothes personifies the freedom and independence of this vast country, equal opportunities and prospects for any immigrant who comes here. The crown, decorated with seven prongs, is a kind of symbol of the seven seas and continents, and the numerous windows located around the entire circumference of the crown symbolize the brilliance of precious stones. The broken shackles lying at the foot of the statue are liberation from slave chains, which was and is more than relevant for the once slave colonial America.
… and inside
Interestingly, even the internal structure of the statue, which later served as the premises for the creation of the Museum of American History, shows the dates and events of the formation of the United States.
In the left hand of the statue there is a tablet on which the numbers "July 4, 1776" are captured. It is easy to guess that this is the date of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence.
The enormous size of the statue conveys the grandeur, the significance of the prospects that open up to future Americans who come to the country from the clutches of the oppression of the Old World.
A bronze plate attached to the front of the pedestal carries sonnet lines dedicated to Lady Liberty, one of the country's inhabitants. These are words engraved in honor of the meeting of the new citizens.
The Statue of Liberty has become truly one of the wonders of the world, a symbol of the so-called "American way of life", the embodiment of the idea of independence, numerous images and copies of this grandiose structure have spread throughout all parts of the globe. The statue itself is open to tourists, dazzled by the splendor of this truly eighth miracle, symbolizing the friendly ties that connect France and America.
