Biography

David Coverdale was born on September 22, 1951 in Yorkshire. His parents were music lovers and owners of a pub with live music. Since childhood, David heard a lot of good music and diligently sang along with the records that were played in the house. At the age of fourteen, he had already formed a voice known to everyone from Deep Purple and Whitesnake.

In addition to music, David liked to draw, and he entered the art college. While attending art college, David was a member of several ensembles such as Vintage 67, Magdalene, Denver Mule. In 1968, David played in the actively performing Yorkshire band The Skyliners.

The band later changed their name to The Government and once opened for Deep Purple. However, the group "The Government" did not reach the professional level and soon broke up. Despite this, Coverdale continued to make music and recorded his own musical material. Some of the songs later became Deep Purple hits (Holy Man, Sail Away, Soldier Of Fortune).

Creation

In 1973, Coverdale learned that Deep Purple were looking for a lead singer to replace Ian Gillan, who had left the band. David was able to hand over a cassette with a demo tape and attached his own child's photo. He was invited to audition, and accepted into the team. The first album that the group released with his participation was a great success. David was accepted by fans and members of the group, but relations between the members of "Deep Purple" were not easy, and after the release of two more albums, the band disbanded in 1976.

David began his solo career and in 1977 recorded his first album "White Snake", consisting of rock ballads. After the release of his second solo album - "Northwinds", David returned to Britain and formed a group called "White Snake". The band quickly became popular, peaking in 1987 with their most commercially successful album. After that the group "White Snake" disbanded. In the 90s, Coverdale twice briefly managed to revive his project "White Snake", and in 1993 David recorded an album with Jimmy Page.

It wasn't until 2000 that David Coverdale released his solo album Into The Light. Not only former, but also future members of the group "Whitesnake" took part in the recording of this disc. For several years, David was engaged in the revival of the collective and, having gathered new members, in 2004 returned to the big stage, going on a world tour.

Currently, David and his band continue to make music, touring every six months. In 2006, David Coverdale received US citizenship. He now lives in Nevada, near Lake Tahoe.
