With the help of prayers, sacrifices and deeds glorifying God, people believed that they could influence natural phenomena: provide protection from hurricanes and floods, beg for more sunny days so that the harvest would not be lost. This gave a person confidence that he would be able to withstand the elements.

Even in the 21st century, having found themselves in a difficult situation, people often turn to God. When loved ones are unable to help, and all that remains is to hope for a miracle, it is scary to admit that you are helpless and lonely. It remains to hope for the help of God, to whom you can appeal with the help of prayers.

From the point of view of an atheist, faith gives people hope for eternal life and helps to cope with fear. A person is afraid of the unknown, and the fear of death is one of the most powerful and widespread, because no one knows what will happen next. Subconsciously, people consider themselves unique, because the thought that they can disappear is unbearable. Belief in a God who promises eternal life saves people from constant fear.

God responded to the prayers of believers: the childless gave birth to long-awaited children, the seriously ill recovered, and the doctors just shrugged their shoulders, unable to explain what had happened from a medical point of view. A believer, turning to God, can receive an answer in the form of a sign. Based on these facts, people do not doubt the existence of a higher being to whom they are addressing. The believer loves God as a strict but just father. How can you doubt the existence of the one you love?
