An unexpected turn of events for many citizens of the country, and even more so for residents of Moscow, was the noisy resignation of the "permanent" mayor of the capital city, seventy-four-year-old Yuri Luzhkov, who has an undeniable weight in the domestic political arena and has been active in such an important position since 1992, who "survived" Yeltsin, Putin, Medvedev.
Confidence
The early termination of powers of Yuri Luzhkov, which occurred in connection with the signing of the presidential decree on the morning of September 28, 2010, was overgrown with a huge number of rumors and speculation, however, the official version was and remains the notorious "loss of trust" in the eyes of the current authorities of the country. It is interesting that such important news found Luzhkov on vacation, after returning from which he could not get an audience with the president, who flatly refused to meet with the now disgraced former mayor.
A family
Among other reasons for dismissal from such a privileged post, analysts tend to name the facts of corruption on the part of a high-ranking official and members of his family, because it is not a secret that Luzhkov's wife Ekaterina Baturina for many years had the title of one of the richest women in the country and had a serious business associated with construction metropolitan lands.
Fire
Perhaps, many Russians still remember the ecological catastrophe of the summer of 2010: thick smoke from the fires of numerous forests enveloped many cities in the country, children, old people, and pregnant women suffered. Luzhkov's inaction that year, who completely retired from solving an important problem in the capital region and hastily left the city, met with serious criticism from the government.
Yuri Mikhailovich preferred to "snap back" at criticism, speaking sharply towards the current party in power.
Since then, in fact, the persecution began, which led a high-ranking official to such a deplorable end to a long-term career.
Money
Whatever the real reason for Luzhkov's resignation, for the majority of the country's politically active citizens, one thing was and remains obvious: a high-ranking official became a clear obstacle in the struggle for political power on the eve of the elections in circles competing at that time not only for Moscow resources, but also for state, for those financial flows.
Financial flows and resources, according to experts, are concentrated in the hands of the mayor of Moscow in the amount of up to 12 percent of the entire state budget
Interestingly, until the end of the legal term of "commanding" the city, the mayor Luzhkov had only a year, the election of the next leader was scheduled for the summer of 2011. Residents of the city greeted this news in different ways, some were saddened by the resignation of such a strong political "long-liver" who had ensured the capital's prosperity for many years, others, on the contrary, considered this fact a new round in the life of the country, indicating an active fight against corruption among the authorities.
