History

“Remove the rentier and you will destroy the shadow in the social picture. Paris will lose its identity. An observer (a kind of scribbler tribe), wandering along the boulevards, will no longer see these humanoid fossils that walk without moving, looking without seeing, talking to themselves, moving their lips soundlessly, and spending three minutes to open and close the lid of their snuffbox - the observer will no longer see these bizarre silhouettes, which fully justify the delightful cartoons of all Callot, Monnier, Hoffman, Gavarnie and Granville, "- the French writer Honore de Balzac once wrote about this social group in his amusing, satirical" Monograph on the Rentier " … In it, on a fairly extensive field, he describes who the rentiers are, why and why: he classifies their habits, appearance and addictions. And it turned out from the classic that people are so-so - little people, lifeless, dull and loose creatures, leading a joyless lifestyle.

Modernity

That Balzac, of course, needs to be trusted, but times have changed so much that now it is difficult to imagine more active and happier people than a rentier. It would seem that they spend their lives in idleness and doing nothing. However, this is not quite true. Their doing nothing is most often built on a huge and all-consuming self-love that requires unremitting care and effort.

It is their self-love that determines their desire to spend one part of the year on the beaches of the world's oceans, mostly somewhere in Goa, and the other on the snow-covered slopes of ski resorts. Especially if the apartments or other real estate they lease is located in Moscow, where, according to all ratings, the highest standard of living in Russia. The income received by the modern Moscow rentiers is also enough to purchase real estate in European countries, which means to replenish their rent. That is, in this way, a classic formula is formed: money makes money. This is how modern rentiers provide for themselves and their loved ones at the expense of passive income.

True, it is worth noting that these people do not call themselves the word rentier. Now much more popular is another word - "downshifting", which also denotes the slowing down or weakening of a process. In a figurative sense, it means a lifestyle focused on oneself and one's family, on mental comfort, leaving behind the race for money and career.

However, there is a category of people who are true modern rentiers: they are lovers of risky financial transactions, but with justified costs and risks, such as investing part of the profits from income in investments, stocks or securities. As a rule, such rentiers have an analytical mindset and are well versed in the economic and political environment, so they allow themselves to gamble on commodity, currency and stock exchanges.

There are many ways to become a rentier: someone, for example, can inherit money, stocks, real estate, etc. And someone goes to his goal for several years, using, perhaps, not even his own, but the rented property of others, subletting it, and gradually "expanding" their possessions, respectively increasing income.

Of course, you need to start becoming a rentier the sooner, the better, since the financial situation of the modern world is extremely unstable. You just need to think over a business plan, which will take into account all the risks, and start making your dream come true!
