Zakat in Islam is one of the compulsory items to be fulfilled. It is the payment by wealthy Muslims of a certain amount of money from property to the poor and needy people. The word "zakat" is translated from Arabic as "purification".
It is called cleansing, as it relieves the property of a Muslim from mistakes and sins during extraction. Zakat also cleanses the souls and hearts of rich people from greed and cruelty, helps to acquire such qualities as generosity and mercy. And these qualities, in turn, are highly valued by God. The payment of zakat is mentioned in the Holy Quran in the "Repentance" surah 60 ayah.
This donation must be paid by all adult, wealthy Muslims of sound mind. Zakat is paid from property such as gold, silver, fruits and vegetables, animals, minerals, or found treasure. But the condition is that a person should not need these things himself. After the payment of zakat, he should have funds with which he can buy himself food, necessary clothing, tools and other things necessary for life.
The amount of this donation is determined by the nisaab. Nisab is the minimum amount from which zakat is paid. Its size depends on the value of gold on the world market.
Zakat must be paid every year. If a Muslim himself cannot determine the amount of zakat or does not know who to give it to, then he can turn to religious institutions, where they will explain everything to him.
