Jarmusch Jim is an extremely eccentric personality, "the singer of one-story America", a legendary director who shoots touching life dramas. He was born in Ohio on January 22, 1953 and, according to critics, "Wherever and whatever Jarmusch makes films about, he only talks about Ohio with his immense longing." And he succeeds perfectly well - the director has repeatedly received the main prize of the Cannes Film Festival.
Biography
Jim was born in Akron, a typical small town in the American outback. In the family, only the mother had something to do with cinema - she wrote small reviews of new films for a local magazine, and my father worked at a tire factory.
As a child, Jim almost died from mushroom poisoning, which prompted him to study biology, but then he left this occupation. At the age of 17, he entered the university to study journalism, deciding to become a writer, and then went to Paris for a year to continue his education. It was there that he fell in love with cinema and realized what he would do in life.
In 1975, Jim graduated from Columbia University with a BA in English and, having no experience in film, easily entered the High School of the Arts in New York.
Career
Jarmusch Jim's first film in the cinema was the 1980 film "Lightning Over Water", although he was only an assistant director, who was his friend Ray Nicholas, who soon died of cancer. The documentary told about Ray's painful departure from life.
In 1982, Jarmusch shoots his own film, Endless Vacation, with a budget of only $ 15,000. This is the story of a homeless teenager Chris living in Manhattan and dreaming of a better life, a story of loneliness and sadness. The film caused a flurry of emotions and immediately fell in love with the audience, making Jarmusch famous. At the same time, few people knew that to create his debut work, Jim spent the grant given to him for training. However, he received his diploma later, although he never returned the money to the university.
The next film, "Stranger than in Paradise," which was released in 1984, won the Cannes Golden Camera Prize and quickly became a cult icon. The director's next work, Outlawed in 1986 and released a year later, Mysterious Train, again received rave reviews and were nominated for awards.
In 1986, the short film "Coffee and Cigarettes" was released. This playful video was embodied in a full-length anthology of the same name of short stories in 2003, where the stars drink coffee, smoke cigarettes and have funny and frank conversations with each other, and laid the foundation for two unusual projects of Jim.
And it was in the process of working on the film that an idea appeared that was immediately brought to life - Jim founded the humorous "semi-secret" society "Lee Marvin's Sons". Marvin is a cult American actor of the middle of the last century, playing courageous heroes, a vivid example of brutality and patriotism. To get membership in the society, you need to be similar to Lee and be of a certain age, that is, have every chance of being the son of a star.
In total, Jarmusch directed about 20 films and played in 17 films himself. Each of his creations received extremely mixed reviews. Jim's personal life is no different - for twenty years he has been living with a woman-director Sarah Driver, and they are in no hurry to become officially husband and wife.
Other projects
Jim released two music compilations in 2012 with Dutch lute player Josef van Wissem. Jamoush has written a number of detailed essays on various contemporary musicians, although he himself is a fan of the good old country and disco of the 80s.
Jamush is a real snob and a great experimenter. But at the same time he is an inveterate retrograde and a moralist. In his films, there is absolutely no sex and nudity, violence and blood, and at the same time this does not affect the rating of Jim's paintings - he invariably remains high. The director himself says that he is not against bloody or erotic scenes, he simply does not want the viewer to be distracted from the main thing - the inner world of the central character of his amazing stories.
