George Miller is an Australian film director, producer and screenwriter. The tetralogy "Mad Max" brought him fame. Miller took part in the creation of the Oscar-winning films "Babe: The Four-Legged Kid" and "Happy Feet". The director co-founded Kennedy Miller Mitchell and Dr. D Studios ".
The Greek Australian filmmaker and former physician was born in Brisbane on March 3, 1945. The parents of the future famous filmmaker are ethnic Greeks. They chose a distant continent in search of a better life. Dimitri Miliotis after emigration changed his name to Miller. The family has four children. George has a twin, John, and brothers, Chris and Bill.
Searching for a dream business
As a child, George changed several educational institutions. He attended Ipswich Grammar School, a Sydney high school for boys. After completing his education, the graduate went to New South Wales to study medicine at the university.
After completing his studies and residency in 1972, Miller worked in a Sydney hospital as a physiotherapist. However, he quickly realized that he did not want to connect the future with medicine. Then his creative biography began. Together with his brother Chris, the future director made his debut amateur short film.
The length of the first tape did not exceed a minute, but the project received a lot of positive feedback from critics. The approval was an incentive for George to continue his creativity. He decided to develop a film career.
The young man entered specialized courses at the University of Melbourne. There he met Byron Kennedy. The purposeful and ambitious guy turned out to be in love with cinema, he dreamed of creating films. The young people quickly became friends. All their free time was spent filming experimental short-length independent films.
In 1972 Miller founded Kennedy Miller Productions with Kennedy to develop a variety of projects. The friends shot the second picture in the genre of full-length cinema in 1979. The film "Mad Max" tells the story of the Australian hero of the post-apocalyptic world. The film became a discovery for all fans of science fiction films. The tape, which turned into a classic in a short time, cost the creators a minimal amount, and earned millions.
Successful career
The project brought fame not only to the director, but also to the leading actor Mel Gibson. Hollywood figures immediately appreciated this success. Miller received an invitation to the United States. They promised him a lot of new projects and huge fees. However, George remained at home.
He directed several more parts of Mad Max in 1981 and 1975. They were called The Warrior of the Road and Under the Dome of Thunder. Both works have been nominated for the Saturn Prize. The new work was the fantasy project "Eastwick Witches". The comedy was twice nominated for an Oscar. Acknowledged the work of the British Film Academy, with the award for the best visual effects. Raised a baby border collie with their puppies. On Christmas Day, Babe alerted the farmer to the possibility of stealing his sheep by raising the alarm. The amazed Hoggett noticed the next day that the piglet was sorting the chickens by color. He takes Babe to the field to feed the sheep.
At the command of the elder sheep, Maa, everyone else begins to obey the new shepherd. Rex, who raised a pig, is jealous of his owner. Because of his clash with a man, the dog is suspended from work. Hoggett decides to compete in a herding dog competition with Babe. As the sheep refuse to obey the piglet's orders, Rex rushes to his home farm and asks the local sheep to help the baby. Learning the words of a special password, he passes them on to Babe, who brilliantly wins the competition.
The successful film received a sequel, which told about the adventures of a funny kid in the city.
New works
In 2006, George made a new role as director of the animated film Happy Feet. The cartoon has won incredible popularity, winning an Oscar for the best full-length animation project. A sequel was filmed in 2011. In 2015, Miller returned to his most successful brainchild about Max. The continuation of the adventures of the fearless hero was named "The Road of Fury".
