The preparation of materials for the exam was carried out by representatives of Princeton University (New Jersey, USA). Today, you can take TOEFL in most major cities of Russia (Astrakhan, Vladivostok, Chelyabinsk, Moscow, Irkutsk, etc.). The cost of the exam is usually about two hundred dollars (you can find out more about the cost by directly contacting the center in your city that offers this service). The exam itself consists of four main parts, each of which is aimed at testing the skills of the examinee in a particular area of knowledge of the English language. The first part of the exam involves checking how well the examinee understands English by ear and is able to draw conclusions from the information received. You will need to listen to various dialogues and give the correct answers to questions that directly relate to the content of the dialogues. To pass this part of the exam well, try to answer all the questions, but do not spend a lot of time on each of them - this part of the exam implies a time limit. The second part of the exam is designed to assess the examinee's ability to perceive texts in English and work with grammatical constructions. The third part assesses the test taker's ability to understand the content of short passages from various texts. To test this skill, you will be offered a reading passage, after reading which you will need to answer questions regarding its content. To successfully pass this part of the exam, try to read the text as carefully as possible, and when answering the questions, remember that it is better to answer at random than to skip the question. The test result will directly depend on the amount of correct answers given by you. The fourth part of the exam is considered the most difficult - the examinee will need to write a capacious and competent essay on a given topic. In order to achieve a good result and pass the TOEFL, you need to pay maximum attention to this task. The essay should be informative, provided with compelling reasons for each thought you have expressed. It is better to familiarize yourself in advance with the list of all the topics that may be offered to you on the exam. A well-passed exam is a prerequisite for admission to a higher education institution in the United States, obtaining a job in the United States, or applying for US citizenship. The TOEFL score is valid for two years.
