At the moment, the film version of "The Chronicles of Narnia" is a trilogy, although the shooting of the fourth film has already been announced. Let us remind you that the Chronicle of Clive Lewis includes seven books.
The Chronicles of Narnia by Clive Lewis
Clive Stapleton Lewis's fantasy and fairytale cycle, created in the 1950s, consists of seven books. However, they were not written in chronological order.
The first book published was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which tells the story of the adventures of four children from the Pevensie family who ended up in the magical world of Narnia. It was followed by "Prince Caspian" and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, or Voyage to the End of the World" - the continuation of the adventures of the same heroes. In the next story, "The Silver Chair", the main characters are already the cousin of the Pevensie children Eustace and his girlfriend Jill. The Horse and His Boy is essentially a spin-off to the rest of the cycle and the only book in which the main characters are from the world of Narnia. This is followed by the book "The Sorcerer's Nephew", which tells about the background of events of all other stories. In The Last Battle, the world of Narnia ends its existence. At the same time, the children of Pevensie (except for Susan), Jill, Eustace, as well as the heroes of The Sorcerer's Nephew, perish in the ordinary world. All of them end up in "true Narnia" - an analogue of the Christian paradise.
At its core, The Chronicles of Narnia is a very religious cycle.
Lewis set himself the task of clothe the basic principles of Christianity in an allegorical form, not only accessible, but also fascinating for children. The result is a truly talented saga that remains a classic of children's fantasy to this day.
Screen adaptation
The film adaptation of director Andrew Adamson was released in 2005. The filmmakers decided to start the cycle not in chronological order, but as Lewis wrote it - with a film based on the book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
The film adaptation was shot in the spirit of high-quality modern fantasy, while clearly religious motives were almost completely released from it.
Filming was conducted by Walden Media Film Studio with the assistance of Walt Disney Studios.
The second film naturally became "Prince Caspian" (2008). In fact, the creators of the cycle had no other choice: it was necessary to have time to shoot the remaining films, in which the children of the Papacy take part, before the actors who play the roles of Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy grow up. Following the same logic, the next tape was The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010), where Edmund and Lucy are involved.
The third film was directed by Michael Aptid instead of Adamson.
In October 2013, the start of work on the fourth film in the Silver Chair series was announced. However, a release date has yet to be determined. It is also difficult to say how many films will be made in the end - given that the two books in the cycle are a prequel and spin-off of the rest of the saga.
