Blessing is the act of imparting personal favor to the work ahead. In another sense, one can mean the transfer of grace-filled help that strengthens a person in a certain activity. The blessing of the confessor is something without which a Christian does not begin any important work. Why is it necessary and what is the relevance of such an action today?

Man in his essence is not just a purely material being. The world perception of people, as well as various religious teachings, indicate the two-part nature of human nature. It consists in the union of body and soul. Therefore, faith is completely understandable and meaningful from the point of view of psychology and belongs to the heart, not to the mind.

The practice of asking a priest for a blessing

Awareness of the personality of oneself, as not the highest being in the universe, indicates the possibility of the existence of God. According to the foundations of Christian doctrine on earth, the Church was founded by the Lord Jesus Christ, understood as a society of people united by one faith, hierarchy and sacraments. The priests were appointed by the apostles themselves to help people with their spiritual needs. That is why even now a person in difficult life situations resorts to a priest for help. Before starting an important business, such as medical treatment, enrolling in an educational institution or starting a family, a person asks for the blessing of a priest. At the same time, it should be understood that through this the person receives the grace-filled help from above, and the clergyman is only an intermediary between God and man in transferring the Creator's favor.

The Purposes of Receiving a Blessing and Its Significance in a Person's Life

It should be noted that there is no practice in Christianity to take blessings for evil deeds. This is connected with the statement of the Church about the need for a person with his whole life to strive only for good principles, to strengthen his inner peace through various virtues. At the moment of asking for blessing, people show their will in pursuit of God. The main goal of human life is to unite with one's Creator (this is what the Orthodox doctrine claims). In Christianity, the relationship between God and man is built not just on the subordination of the second to the first, but on mutual love. God is primarily a loving Father. If there is an opportunity to contact your friend in order to ask for help in getting a job or entering an educational institution, then this opportunity is often not neglected. This is what a blessing is for. Thus, people ask for help from God for the future affairs, enlist His support.

In a world where many unforeseen circumstances occur, a person tries to protect himself from a variety of negativity. Everyone wants his good intentions to end in success. In this sense, the help of God, who is subject to absolutely everything, is necessary and more and more establishes a person on the righteous path of cooperation with his Creator.
