The EXPO, or World Expo, is one of the most famous in the world. Leading manufacturers present their latest innovations and achievements at the exhibition, countries have their own pavilions. Each time the EXPO takes place in a new place.
In 2012, the EXPO exhibition is held in the South Korean city of Yesu, selected back in 2007. Exhibition theme: "Living Ocean and Coastal Zone: Diversity of Resources and Their Rational Use". The opening ceremony was held on May 11 and was accompanied by laser special effects and fireworks.
The Russian pavilion is traditionally one of the largest and most visited. The motto of Russia at the exhibition: "Ocean and Man - The Path from the Past to the Future." Based on this, the Russian exposition is represented by several main zones: the history of the development of the ocean, its modern use and the harmonious interaction of man and the ocean.
Within the framework of the exposition, Russia presented many interesting topics and developments. Thus, the state corporation "Rosatom" has proposed a project for a floating nuclear thermal power plant. JSC RusHydro demonstrated developments dedicated to the use of the energy of ocean tides and waves. The exposition of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute" tells about the unique research of Lake Vostok in Antarctica. Researchers managed to extract water from a lake under a four-kilometer ice shell. Dozens of Russian enterprises and research institutes acquaint visitors of the exhibition with their unique developments.
The theme of the exhibition was chosen taking into account the ever-increasing importance of water resources in human life. The depletion of the resources of the world's oceans has already led to the fact that traditional fishing areas do not allow for the high catches of fish characteristic of the last century. Many countries face an acute shortage of fresh water. The pollution of the seas and oceans has led to a threatening nature; natural cleaning mechanisms can no longer cope with the consequences of the ever-increasing human impact on aquatic ecosystems.
Several scientific symposia are held during the exhibition. In particular, issues related to global warming and fisheries problems are considered, an international ocean forum is being held. The EXPO-2012 exhibition will close on August 12.
