Beer festivals gather fans of this drink from all over the world. One of the largest events is the International Berlin Beer Festival, also called the Beer Mile. In 2014 it will take place from 1 to 3 August.
18th International Berlin Beer Festival
The 18th International Beer Festival will take place in Berlin from 1 to 3 August. This annual festival gathers no less guests than the well-known Oktoberfest. Beer tents are traditionally located on the Karl Marx Alley in the center of Berlin, which is more than 2 km long.
The history of the festival dates back to 1997, and in 2011 the Beer Mile was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest beer garden (open-air beer restaurant). Along the entire alley from Strausberg Square to the Frankfurt Gate, 320 beer producers from 86 countries will be located, who will be able to offer visitors to taste about 2,000 varieties of this popular drink.
Guests of the event will receive as a gift a beer mug with the logo of the festival in the volume of 0.2 liters and a commemorative photo against the background of an advertising poster.
Every year, some of the beer producing countries become the queens of the evening. In 2008, the Czech Republic became such, in 2009 - Belgium, in 2010 - Vietnam, in 2012 - the Baltic countries, and in 2013 the focus was on Poland. The organizers are still hiding who will become the star of the event at the upcoming festival, preparing a surprise for the guests.
The organizer of the International Berlin Beer Festival is the German company Praesenta. According to the company, in 2014 about 700,000 guests are expected from all over the world. In addition to beer tents, entertainment shows and performances by musical groups at 20 concert venues await them.
The festival has rules that prohibit offensive statements regarding race, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation of citizens. Violation of the rules is followed by immediate expulsion.
Anyone can take part in the festival and it is completely free. On August 1, the festival starts at 12 noon and ends at 12 noon. On August 2, the festival will run from 10 am to midnight, and on August 3, from 10 to 22.
