Supporters of religious beliefs who honor customs and traditions, as a rule, know the names of holy people by heart. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that the phrase Matrona of Moscow is understandable and familiar to most Orthodox Christians, moreover, Orthodox Christians consider it a great success to bow to her relics.
In ordinary life, this holy woman - Matrona of Moscow - was called Matryona Dmitrievna by the name of Nikonova. The life of an ordinary peasant woman was not easy, she was blind from birth and did not have her own home, so she often had to wander among Moscow houses in search of another night's lodging. However, since childhood, she attracted the people around her with her gift of healing from all kinds of diseases and ailments. Despite her blindness, her heart was always open, because she helped absolutely everyone in need.
All seeing blind
The matron also possessed a strange foresight and was even able to see her own death. She firmly knew that she had only three days left, but she did not stop accepting people, but, on the contrary, was in a hurry and was afraid not to have time to help all the suffering.
Matrona died on May 2, 1952. She was buried at the famous Danilovsky Moscow cemetery, which became her last refuge. This place has become a sacred place for many pilgrims who believe in the miraculous powers of a woman. For years people came to her grave and asked for help and cure for deadly diseases. But in the spring of 1998, a decision was made to exhume the body of the saint.
The abused remains of the matron of Moscow, or, as they say in religious circles, relics, were decided to be placed in churches.
Relics in parts
Now the relics can be seen both in the Intercession and in the Danilov Monastery, but these are only two main temples that store Matryona's particles. In the Intercession Monastery, the relics are placed in a tomb called a cancer. Cancer is considered to be an ark with holy remains, which looks like an ordinary coffin. It is Pokrovsky that is considered the most popular and most visited today.
Every day in the Pokrovsky monastery there is a line of people who want to pray and ask for some kind of help.
It is worth noting that the relics of St. Matrona are in many Moscow churches, for example, in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. This temple is famous not only for the relics of Matrona, but also for the particles of the holy spouses Peter and Fevronia.
Matrona today can be visited in the Church of Euphrosyne of Moscow, the Church of Cosmas and Damian, the Church of the Resurrection of the Word and the Church of St. George the Victorious. Such a large number of sanctuaries with the relics of St. Matrona of Moscow is due to her immense popularity among believers, thousands of people worship and pray to her every day.
