Mikhail Mikhailovich was born on September 16, 1936 in Moscow. Mikhail's family moved to Moscow from the Far Eastern village of Monomakhovo, however, during the war, Mikhail's father died and his mother never chose a new husband.
Young Mikhail planned to be a sailor, but he would not be able to enter the naval college due to vision problems.
Mikhail received his education at the Moscow Industrial College, after which, in 1957, he was assigned as an engineer at Glavnefterudprom.
