How often do you hold the doors of a subway car at stops so that another passenger can jump in? And it is forbidden to do this. And not only because you can get injured.
The doors of subway cars at stations are often held back, especially during rush hours and at stations with the highest passenger traffic. You cannot do this, and there are three main reasons for this.
- Wear of the door opening and closing mechanism. It can fail much more often than intended.
- Injury to passengers.
- General line failure due to schedule violation. The train cannot move if at least one door is open. This is especially acute during rush hour, when every 10 seconds is important.
At rush hour, for example, on the red line of the metro, the interval of trains is 1 minute 30 seconds. The parking lot at the station is always definite and very limited, mainly 15-20 seconds. If the train stops longer than it is supposed to, the next ones will start to slow down and also delay.
Passengers are also affected by disruption to train schedules because these delays affect the overall duration of the journey. That is, instead of the planned 30 minutes, a person can get to work, for example, 35 minutes.
When you hold the door and then release it, they close very abruptly. If you do not have time to jump back in time, the doors can pinch a limb or other part of the body. At the very least, it hurts enough and can even lead to injury.
Due to the fact that passengers hold the doors of the cars, trains can also have unplanned stops in the tunnels, because the previous train is still at a stop and it is necessary to wait out this time somewhere. This keeps others behind and creates a kind of congestion on the metro line. This chain reaction happens whenever someone holds the door. In addition, cars can brake sharply when passengers do not expect it, which can create certain inconveniences.
Another rather big problem of train delays is that electricity consumption is increasing. Because if a train accelerates and slows down at the station in normal mode, then one amount of electricity is consumed. If he has to additionally stop and accelerate out of plan, and then this happens with every train on the line, then this requires much more electricity.
When an announcement sounds that the doors are closing, this does not mean that you have to hold them and jump into the car as if this is the last train for today. Sometimes passengers put their hands between the doors or a backpack so that they open and they can get into the car. This is absolutely impossible to do. The announcement of the closing of the doors is a reservation that this train is already leaving and the next one must be awaited.
