Childhood and youth

In the vastness of the Russian Empire at the beginning of the twentieth century, dozens of large and small nations lived in peace and harmony. Each nation made its own contribution to the development of its native country. Boris Evseevich Chertok was born on March 1, 1912 in the family of an employee. Parents at that time lived in the city of Lodz on the territory of the Kingdom of Poland. My father worked as an accountant at a textile factory. Mother worked as a paramedic at a local hospital. After the outbreak of the First World War, the Chertok family moved to Moscow, away from the theater of military operations.

When the future creator of control systems was seven years old, he was enrolled in a school with a polytechnic bias. Boris, together with his friends, became interested in radio engineering. He visited the library and got acquainted with the news from this area of science and technology. The young man was good at designing radios, amplifiers and other electronic devices. In 1928, a publication appeared on the pages of the magazine "Radio to All" with a description of the tube radio, which Chertok invented. The next year he graduated from high school and went to work in the electrical shop of the silicate plant.

Scientific and production activities

In 1930, Boris was invited to the Tushino Aviation Plant as a specialist in electrical equipment for aircraft. Three years later, he, who did not have a higher education, was appointed responsible for the development of a power supply system for aircraft that were created for flights in the Arctic. To cut off inappropriate questions, Chertok entered the correspondence department of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. During the war, Boris Evseevich held senior positions in the Design Bureau for the development of automatic devices for bombers and rocket engines.

After the victory, Chertok spent almost four years in Germany, where he was collecting information and studying captured rocket technology. After returning to the Soviet Union, he was appointed head of a department in the secret design bureau, which was headed by Sergei Pavlovich Korolev. For many years, Boris Evseevich participated in the development, testing and deployment of strategic ballistic missiles on combat duty. Designed control systems for Earth satellites, interplanetary stations and communication satellites.

Recognition and privacy

It should be noted that all the projects that Boris Chertok was involved in were classified as "secret". The homeland appreciated the academician's contribution to the development of science and the country's defense capability. He was awarded the honorary title of Hero of Socialist Labor. Chertok is a laureate of the Lenin and State Prizes.

The personal life of Boris Evseevich has developed well. He married Ekaterina Semyonovna Golubkina. The couple raised and raised two sons. Academician Chertok died in December 2011. Buried at the Novodevichy cemetery.
