Boris studied well at school. At first I didn't even think about my writing career. However, under the influence of events taking place outside the walls of the school and home, he began to express his impressions on paper. The novice writer had good satirical notes and feuilletons for the school wall newspaper. After graduating from seven classes, Polevoy entered a technical school. And here he continued to write small materials, which he took to the editorial office of the Tverskaya Pravda newspaper. After graduating from college, Boris worked for more than a year as a technologist at a local textile factory.
In the creative field
Work at the factory did not prevent Polevoy from preparing articles and essays for city newspapers. In 1927, the first collection of essays was published, entitled Memoirs of a Lousy Man. The book was noticed. The famous proletarian writer Maxim Gorky wrote a positive review. After that Boris was invited to the editorial staff of the city newspaper as a reporter. Meanwhile, a large-scale construction of industrial enterprises was launched in the country. Boris traveled a lot on construction sites and recorded his conversations with workers and engineering and technical workers.
In 1939, his story "Hot Shop" was published on the pages of the October magazine. The publication caused numerous acclaims from readers. Many of them recognized themselves in the heroes of the work. When the war began, Polevoy was sent to the staff of the front-line newspaper Proletarskaya Pravda. He regularly went on business trips to the front lines and brought materials that were immediately put in the "strip". One day the military commander found out about a fighter pilot who flies with amputated feet. This plot formed the basis of "The Story of a Real Man".
