Grigory Shalvovich Chkhartishvili was born on May 20, 1956 in an ordinary Soviet family. Parents at that time lived in the small Georgian town of Zestafoni. His father, a career officer, served in the artillery troops. Mother taught Russian language and literature. Two years later, the head of the family was transferred to Moscow. The child grew up and developed in a creative environment. There was a good library at home. Grisha learned to read early and began to select the books on the lower shelves. The boy grew up and over time the volumes at the very top became available to him.

In a school with in-depth study of the English language, the future writer studied well. Already in the third grade, he read the cult novel The Master and Margarita. A year later I took up the book by Lev Tolstov "War and Peace". Gregory's favorite subject was geography. Once he was assigned to prepare an essay on Japan and Tunisia. A diligent student conscientiously prepared for this work and looked through all the materials on the topic that were in the school library. His essay was the best in the class.

Writing career

After graduating from school, Chkhartishvili decided to get a specialized education at the Faculty of History and Philology of the Institute of Asian and African Countries. Studying was easy for him. In addition to his main workload, he studied Japanese thoroughly. During the holidays he worked as a guide at the Intourist hotel. Tourists from Japan were delighted with his informative and imaginative excursions. Under the student exchange program, Grigory studied for two semesters at the University of Tokyo. After completing his studies, he worked for several years at the publishing house "Russian language", where he was engaged in translations of literary works from English and Japanese.

In 1998, the first book by Boris Akunin was published. It was this pseudonym that he chose to sign his works of art. Why Akunin chose the detective genre remains a mystery. But it was these books that brought him fame. The writer worked like a well-oiled machine. A literary character named Erast Petrovich Fandorin became a passing hero of a large series of novels - "The Diamond Chariot", "Turkish Gambit", "Black City", "Decorator" and others. In 2013, the first volume of "History of the Russian State" was published, edited by the writer.

Recognition and privacy

Boris Akunin's creative achievements have been repeatedly noted with various awards and prizes. For the development of cultural ties between Russia and Japan, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun.

The writer tries not to advertise his personal life. It is known that he is married twice. Boris's first wife was a Japanese citizen who was studying at Moscow State University. After a while, they parted. After that, Erica Voronova, a professional proofreader and editor, became the wife of the venerable writer. Today they live and work in close cooperation. The couple has no children.
