Natalia Sergeeva was a double agent. She was unquestioningly trusted in the Abwehr, and she sent there radiograms with fake information. But everything almost fell apart because of Natalia's beloved dog.
After reading the diary of Natalya Sergeeva, you might think that this is the script of a fascinating film. But everything stated there was in fact. The brave girl, on her own initiative, became a double agent, was dexterous and fearless.
Biography
Natalya Sergeeva is from a family of white emigrants. She is also the niece of the famous General Miller, who was kidnapped by the Chekists.
Natalia was born in the city of St. Petersburg in 1912. When the October Revolution took place, the girl and her parents emigrated to France. Here the girl changed her real name Natalya to Lily. She received a decent education in Paris. Sergeeva spoke French and English. When she worked as a journalist, she once interviewed even Goering, a statesman in Nazi Germany.
The girl was generally brave. At a young age, she walked across Europe, then described it in her book. Lily also took the long bike ride from Paris to Saigon.
In a scout - voluntarily
The girl was good at drawing. Subsequently, this played into her hands, since visual memory and the ability to make accurate sketches were important for her career as a scout.
Knowledge of languages, artistic talent, and the fact that Sergeeva had relatives in England convinced German recruiters to entrust Natalia with a responsible mission.
The girl was also daring and courageous, such qualities were also useful to the future scout.
But then a script from a comedy film about fascists was added to real life. Such paintings were very popular during the war. In fact, it all happened for real. Due to the stupidity, non-obligation of some Reich workers, Natalya waited for her departure for 3 years. Either the workers of gallant Germany sent radiograms to the wrong place, then they lost the encryption, then the head of Sergeeva was experiencing a heartfelt drama. In general, after the end of this confusion and stupidity, it was only in the fall of 1943 that the girl arrived in Spain.
Double agent
According to a pre-developed plan, Lily was supposed to come to the British Consulate for a visa. Here she talked about the mission of the Reich and revealed her plans.
Natalia clarified that she would work for the British to win the Second World War and defeat fascism. But she made a condition for her beloved dog to be transported from abroad without a six-month quarantine, and in the near future.
The British at first promised to fulfill this condition, but the law was implacable. Poor Fox Terrier Babs could not stand the long quarantine and died.
And Natalya Sergeeva has already transmitted reports to the Abwehr with false information about the landing of the allies in Pas-de-Calais, and not in Normandy. Upon learning of the death of her beloved animal, she was beside herself with anger. And the girl let slip that she has a key that she must use in case of working undercover. Then the British removed her from radio sessions, but then work resumed.
So, because of the dog, the Allied landing in Normandy almost failed. Natalia lived for a short 35 years, but managed to go down in history and stay there forever.
