If you know how and love to write articles and notes, then sooner or later the thought will occur to you that this skill can be useful to you in order to make money. Today, many print and online publications invite authors to collaborate, and you can also try your hand at journalism.
Instructions
Step 1
Before sending an article to the journal, you must clearly understand what style and direction of the article is needed for this publication. It is not enough to come up with, develop and it is interesting to formulate any idea that will become the topic of the article. You need to research this topic and look at all the publications that have been published recently. The more original the topic and views expressed in the article, the higher the likelihood that it will be published.
Step 2
Choose a publisher that is interested in similar topics. Contact the editor by email or phone number indicated in the imprint of the publication. Find out if this publisher publishes articles written on the initiative of the author, and if they have a plan to publish articles on a particular topic. Inquire about text formatting requirements, which may vary from publisher to publisher.
Step 3
Once you have agreed that your article will be accepted, read the latest issues of that magazine or newspaper. Get an idea of the complexity of the text, corporate style of presentation and presentation of materials. Imagine the target audience of the magazine, its gender, age, interests. Make sure that your article is suitable for the given publisher and will interest them.
Step 4
Check with the editor with which of the editors you are better off working with. Contact him by mail and tell him the idea of the article, trying to attract and interest him. Mention your experience as a copywriter, if available, refer to your publications. Tell us how long the article is and how soon you are ready to submit it to the editor. Write concisely and concisely. The volume of the letter should not be large, optimally - half a page.
Step 5
After sending the letter, wait two to three weeks. This time is enough for the editor, if he is interested, will phone you or send you a reply by mail. If you have not received anything, it makes sense to contact the editor by phone and clarify whether your letter has been received. It is better to communicate with the editor you wrote to, it will help to establish personal contact.
Step 6
In the event that the article is accepted for publication, specify the amount of the fee, by what date it will be published. Consult the Union of Journalists about the possibility of concluding a contract. If the article was rejected, do not be upset - try to contact another publisher and offer it there, even if you have to slightly adjust the style and volume to suit their requirements. Proceed consistently and do not agree to publish the same article with different publishers.
