The feast of the Epiphany in the Orthodox Church is considered one of the most important. It reminds us that Jesus Christ, being sinless, was baptized in the waters of the Jordan River. After that, the Holy Spirit descended from heaven to Christ in the form of a dove. Orthodox Christians still believe in the healing power of Epiphany water.

Instructions

Step 1

On the day of Epiphany and on the eve of each church, the illumination of water taken from various sources takes place. On January 18, the first consecration takes place, after which the believers can come and draw water. On January 19, the very feast of Epiphany begins, when the sources are illuminated and the believers are dipped three times into the hole. Collect the consecrated water in the church on any of these two days (and the following week), but only after the service.

Step 2

Do not drink this water for the sake of quenching your thirst, because it has beneficial properties, cleanses not only the body, but also the soul, the home. It is believed that even tap water on the day of the Baptism of the Lord has healing power. If you want to collect water on Epiphany Christmas Eve, then drinking it before or after that is more appropriate on an empty stomach.

Step 3

Come to a temple or a consecrated spring with a clean container for water and a reverent mood. If a crane or source has no free space, do not push while trying to move forward. Do not draw water when you are in a bad mood, it is better to pray for the health of your family and friends. After the container you brought is filled, wash yourself three times and take a few sips of consecrated water. When you bring it home, give it to all family members first.

Step 4

Store your water carefully all year long and don't waste it. Do not put bottles or water tanks where people will stumble over them, but hide them in a closet or basement. The ideal place for storing Epiphany water is the holy corner, where the icons stand. If you collect water every year, do not empty the water left over from last year. Use it to cook food or just drink it.

Step 5

Begin the day with the use of prosphora and sacred water on an empty stomach, reading the prayer “Lord, my God, may your holy and holy water be your gift to enlighten my mind, to strengthen my mental and physical strength, to the health of my soul and body, to conquer the passions and my infirmities according to Thy infinite mercy through the prayers of Thy Most Pure Mother and all Thy saints. Amen.
