The mental state of a person is determined by congenital and acquired factors. Robert Durst suffered from a split personality from an early age. This pathology arose in him after a tragedy in the family.
Childhood and youth
To "put together" a solid capital, you need to choose a profitable niche and a suitable period of time. Grandpa came to America as a poor tailor. Skillfully operating with small amounts, reselling real estate, he became a millionaire twenty years later. Robert Durst was born on April 12, 1943 in a wealthy family. The child was the eldest of four heirs. Parents at that time lived in the famous city of New York. My father was engaged in real estate investments. The mother kept the household and raised the children.
Until the age of seven, Robert grew up as a completely prosperous child. I spoke kindly with my younger brothers and sister. One unfortunate day, the mother committed suicide by throwing herself from the roof of a high-rise building that belonged to the Durst family. All this happened in front of the boy. From that moment on, Robert's behavior changed dramatically. Sometimes, for no apparent reason, he ran away from home. He studied well at school, but he almost did not communicate with his peers. Classmates nicknamed him "loner". A psychiatrist who examined Robert at the age of ten diagnosed him with "personality decay and an early stage of schizophrenia."
Criminal secrets
After high school, Durst was educated at the Department of Economics at the University of California. After receiving his bachelor's degree, Robert moved to Vermont and tried to pursue an independent career in business. To this end, he opened a small health food store. However, the trade, as they say, "did not go". In 1969 he returned to New York and began working as a real estate agent for his father's company. Four years later, Robert married Kathleen McCormick. For two years they looked closely at each other before deciding on a marriage.
At first, the relationship was developing quite normally. However, every year the situation became more acute. The husband and wife often quarreled. Robert began to beat his wife. The final denouement came in January 1982. One day the woman disappeared. Robert reported the loss of his wife to the police only four days later. No criminal case was opened because Kathleen's body was never found. She remained on the missing persons list. Durst officially divorced his wife in 1990, eight years after her disappearance.
Suspicions and personal life
Robert was friends and communicated with Susan Berman for many years. The girl had an attractive appearance and easy character. Her father was registered with the police, and died in a mafia showdown. A friend helped Robert during the investigation into the disappearance of Kathleen. In 2000, Durst was suspected of murdering Susan, who was shot in the back of the head in her own bedroom.
In 2015, Robert Durst received 85 months in prison for illegal possession of weapons.
