The beginning of the creative path

He was born in 1971 to a Jewish family. The name went to Leonid from his great-grandfather, but relatives and friends often called him Alexei. Father Grigory Isaakovich devoted himself to journalism, mother Zoya Izrailevna - to preschool pedagogy. All his childhood was spent in Odessa - "a warm and atmospheric city", as Lenya himself said. The family has always dreamed of seeing the boy in one of the creative professions. Grandmother, theatrical accompanist from early childhood introduced her grandson to music. Playing the piano did not appeal to him until he became acquainted with jazz. Everything changed in one day. Barats enrolled in a theater group and became a frequent visitor to the school scene. Journalism also attracted him, and for a long time he could not decide on his future profession.

Quartet I

Acquaintance with colleagues from the "Quartet I" took place during the studies. With Rostislav Khait, they were inseparable from the first grade of the Odessa school, Alexander Demidov and Kamil Larin joined already at GITIS. Since 1993, close friendship has grown into creative collaboration. At the same time, the stage debut of the collective took place - the production "These are only stamps".

The first recognition came to the quartet in 2001 after the premiere of the play "Radio Day", where Leonid Barats acted as the scriptwriter. In addition to the four artists, Nonna Grishaeva, Alexander Tsekalo, Maxim Vitorgan took part in it. A year later, the comedy "Election Day" continued the triumph of the team. The era of "Quartet I" touring began. They visited all major Russian cities, visited the CIS countries, and everywhere they were greeted warmly and enthusiastically.

But real fame came to Barats and his comrades after the film adaptation of these two performances in 2008-2009. Television films made them famous and loved by millions of viewers. Later we saw screens of their author's works "What Men Talk About" and the sequel "What Men Talk About". The team created all their projects together, each made his own contribution, but it was difficult to underestimate the role of Leonid Barats - an actor, author, producer. Critics were also supportive of him - they saw in him a talented playwright. Perhaps this is how he tried to find the very "golden mean for the Russian theater", the lack of which he spoke of in his interviews.

The actor has repeatedly agreed to shoot in video clips of famous singers and musical groups: "Agatha Christie", "Bravo", "Combination". He also tried his hand at dubbing American animated films, and once acted as the author of a popular Russian cartoon.

Personal life

For more than 20 years, Barats has been married to Anna Kasatkina. They met at the university and got married very young. They were connected by a long family life and creativity, they raised two daughters. But three years ago, the couple unexpectedly announced their separation to everyone, now they are connected only by joint work and children who communicate with both parents. The eldest daughter Elizabeth decided to continue the family acting dynasty. And in the life of Leonid, another Anna appeared - Moiseeva, a psychologist from Odessa.

This is how he is, Leonid Barats, a talented actor and screenwriter, Honored Artist of Russia. He spends his free time at the piano and plays his favorite football. He hates rudeness and most of all appreciates decency in people.
