At the age of 29, he was ordained a Freemason, and reached quite great heights in this organization.
Political career
A year earlier, that is, when Franklin was only 28 years old, he ran for the post of Senator in the state of New York, and won. At the time, he was a supporter of Woodrow Wilson, supported him in every possible way, and soon received the position of Assistant Secretary of the Navy in Washington. His active life position, desire to be useful in his post did not go unnoticed.
Apparently, even then Roosevelt realized that politics should become his path: in 1914 he ran for the US Senate, but did not succeed. He did not give up, and in 1928 he became governor of the state of New York, which opened the way for him to big politics and the White House.
During this time, Franklin gained invaluable experience as a politician and manager, which helped him a lot in the future. An economic crisis just hit, and Roosevelt made every effort to help people, especially the unemployed.
Roosevelt - President
Franklin Roosevelt was not the first president with such a surname - the 26th President Theodore Roosevelt had already been before him, and he has always been an example for Franklin.
Therefore, in the 1932 elections, he put forward his candidacy and defeated Herbert Hoover, becoming the thirty-second president of the United States. In just 100 days, he managed to change the situation in the country, taking several emergency measures, including reforming the banking system, supporting farmers and an urgent industrial recovery.
In the 1936 elections, he wins again and continues his reforms, which bring tangible positive results. In foreign policy, he prefers to adhere to the principle of neutrality, although he does not hide the fact that he is going to create a large-scale military-industrial complex.
This was followed by re-election for the third and fourth terms, and until the end of her days she remained the President of the United States.
Personal life
Franklin married the niece of the adored Theodore Roosevelt, Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, a distant relative of his when he graduated from Harvard. They had six children and thirteen grandchildren - a huge family.
In such a situation, Eleanor could not be anything but a housewife. However, the case demanded her participation in election campaigns and in her husband's further work in various positions. And if not for her help, Franklin would have found it much more difficult to cope.
Moreover, she was not only an assistant - she was engaged in the employment of women. She is called one of the first feminists in America.
And during World War II, she became Assistant Secretary of Defense of the United States. Her help was very important especially after Franklin was forced to sit in a wheelchair after polymyelitis.
