Very little is left until the sensational premiere of the film "In the Fog" by Ukrainian director Serhiy Loznitsa. This work will represent Russia at the 65th festival in Cannes. But viewers will only see this film in September. Guests and participants of the film festival will be a little more fortunate. This picture will appear to their eyes much earlier.
In the Fog genre, it is a historical drama. This is the director's second job. And film critics predict a great future for her. At least they believe that Loznitsa has every chance of winning at the Cannes Film Festival.
The main role in the film was played by a graduate of GITIS, Belarusian actor Vladimir Svirsky. The role of partisan punishers went to the actor from Yekaterinburg Sergey Kolesov and Muscovite Vlad Abashin. The film also stars Mikhail Evlanov, Boris Karmozin, Nadezhda Markina, Yulia Peresild. The episodes involve residents of the places where the shooting took place.
The previously presented painting by Loznitsa - "My Happiness" - caused a lot of criticism. The director was accused of excessive cruelty. And "In the Fog", judging by the few fragments, promises to be just as severe. It is not surprising. After all, the actions described in the picture take place in wartime. More precisely - in 1942 in Belarus occupied by the German fascists.
The plot itself is based on the story of the same name by the Belarusian writer Vasil Bykov, all of whose works are striking in their truthfulness and accuracy. It is not for nothing that he is considered one of the most honest authors, masterfully describing the events of World War II. It was they who formed the basis for the film by Sergei Loznitsa.
The film is set in Belarus. The plot begins with the fact that partisans, on assignment, go to destroy one of the peaceful inhabitants of the village - the trackman Sushenya. In their detachment, they came to the decision that he was a traitor. In fact, Sushenya is falsely accused of collaborating with the invaders. Later it turns out that the partisans were wrong. In fact, the sentenced person is a decent person who, by coincidence, got into an unpleasant situation. But he cannot prove his case. Hoping to demonstrate his innocence, Sushenya is trying to make a moral choice in the circumstances. But the result was still sad.
The film, like the work of Vasil Bykov, ends tragically. But this is our story. Without embellishment.
